The Site Safety Officer will partner with the site operations team in a Fulfillment Center to execute company safety policies and ensure compliance with all applicable local and regional regulations. Leveraging lean principles and kaizens, the officer will lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce conditional and ergonomic risk, providing a safe and healthful work environment for Associates. The officer must build trust with Operations, providing comprehensive risk assessments and safety data analysis, and influence change. Effective communication, clear verbal and written messaging, and training of Operations Leaders on safety policies are essential. The officer will identify best practices, incorporate them into standards, and possess strong safety program, environmental, and ergonomic knowledge.
The Site Safety Officer leads a safety team consisting of Safety Specialists, Safety Coordinators, and Onsite first‑aid Associates. The officer creates and executes leadership development plans, communicates expectations, gives feedback, and ensures the team meets Amazon safety professional competencies.
Safety Officer Responsibilities
- Provide guidance and oversight to ensure compliance with all Amazon Safety Policies.
- Measure site performance against published safety policy requirements and develop corrective action plans.
- Deliver timely, quality projects to Operations.
- Analyze safety metrics, reviewing incident trends weekly and monthly to prioritize resource allocation.
- Perform frequent site safety audits to identify non‑compliance equipment/processes and implement risk elimination solutions.
- Audit record‑keeping and Global Safety Database entries for compliance with global safety standards and local regulations.
- Audit workplace organization and Associate behaviors to ensure accurate training and scoring methods.
- Manage and mentor Safety Associates.
- Spend time at fulfillment centers and gather input from Safety teams, Associates, and leaders on safety improvement opportunities, and communicate progress.
- Ensure site leadership and Associates are trained on their policy responsibilities, audit the quality and effectiveness of required safety training.
Basic Qualifications
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- 2+ years previous experience in Environment, Health & Safety.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related safety field.
- Experience managing multiple direct reports in reputed organizations.
- Flexible regarding shifts.
- Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment.
- NEBOSH/ADIS or any Bachelor’s Degree with safety experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to present complex technical information clearly to executives and non‑technical leaders.
- Experience in fulfillment center or manufacturing, construction, supply chain management, or safety with a mix of exempt and non‑exempt employees at a site of at least 200 people.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience in a fast‑paced, changing/growing organization.
- Safety Certified Professional preferred.
- Ability to develop and implement department goals and strategies.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Adaptability to fast‑paced environments with changing circumstances, direction, and strategy.
