Dronus, a leading company in autonomous drone technology, is seeking a practical and detail-oriented Test Engineer with solid cross-functional expertise in electronics and embedded systems to join our team in Trieste. The role focuses on hands-on validation of software and firmware developments directly on real UAV platforms (bench testing and flight tests), ensuring reliability, safety and performance in real-world aerial operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute structured test plans on UAV flight controllers, companion computers, sensors (IMU, GPS, LiDAR, cameras), actuators and communication systems.
- Perform functional, performance, regression and environmental testing both in laboratory and during real flight test campaigns.
- Use electronic test equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, spectrum analyzers, power analyzers, JTAG/SWD) to verify signal integrity, power consumption and hardware-software interactions.
- Analyze flight logs and telemetry data to identify anomalies and support root-cause analysis.
- Document test procedures, results and defects in the company tracking tools; produce clear test reports for developers and management.
- Reproduce reported issues, provide detailed feedback to the development team and verify fixes through re-testing.
- Participate actively in field and flight test sessions (pre-flight checks, test execution, post-flight debriefs).
Essential Requirements
- At least 3–5 years of hands-on experience in testing embedded electronic systems, preferably in drones, robotics, aerospace or automotive.
- Strong practical knowledge of electronic measurement instruments and electrical troubleshooting.
- Availability to participate in outdoor flight test campaigns.
- Proficiency in English (technical documentation and team communication).
Preferred Qualifications
- Good reading knowledge of C/C++ to understand the code/firmware under test.
- Basic familiarity with UAV.
- Valid EASA Open Category drone pilot certificate A1/A3 (or equivalent national certification that allows sub-250g and A3 operations).
- Previous experience in real drone flight testing
- Basic scripting knowledge (Python or similar) for simple data post-processing or log analysis.
- Manual drone piloting experience beyond the minimum certificate.
