School of Biomedical Engineering, University of Hong Kong (HKU)

Established in 2025, the School of Biomedical Engineering (SBME) at HKU is a vibrant hub for interdisciplinary translational research and innovation, uniting Faculties of Medicine, Engineering, Dentistry and Science.

Applications are invited for appointments at the School of Biomedical Engineering (Ref.  ) to commence as soon as possible. The appointment rank will be determined based on qualifications and experience. Initially, the position will be a three‑year fixed‑term appointment with possibilities of renewal and consideration for tenure prior to the expiry of a second contract. Exceptionally outstanding candidates at Professor‑/Associate Professor‑level may be considered for tenure terms subject to university approval.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. degree or equivalent in a related discipline.
  • Strong track record of high‑quality research (publication record, external grants).
  • International recognition and ability to collaborate across disciplines.
  • Commitment to engaging students in inquiry‑based learning at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Position‑Specific Priorities

  • Assistant Professor – strong potential to establish an impactful research program, meaningful contribution to SBME mission, teaching and mentoring, early success securing research funding, professional service.
  • Associate Professor – established nationally recognized research program, proven teaching and student mentorship, clear vision for advancing research within SBME, high‑impact publications, external funding, service.
  • Professor – internationally recognized research program, outstanding teaching and mentoring record, forward‑looking vision for research excellence, leadership in major university initiatives, substantial professional service.

Teaching and Service

Appointees will teach biomedical engineering subjects in the SBME undergraduate degree programme in their area of expertise. They will make substantial contributions to the School’s strategic goals in academic and research collaborations locally, regionally and internationally.

Remuneration and Benefits

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, along with annual leave, medical benefits, contract‑end gratuity, university contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, and housing benefits where applicable.
