Job Title
Telecom Integration & Physical Architecture Engineer
Overview
Hitachi Rail is seeking an enthusiastic self‑motivated engineer for a fast‑paced role in Piossasco (TO), Italy. The position involves a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic, with a focus on Telecom Integration and Physical Architecture.
Responsibilities
- Guarantee the conformity and compliance of the Telecom Integration & Physical Architecture design to contractual requirements.
- Perform design review of main subsystems, particularly telecom subsystems, and assess system and on‑board interface performance.
- Manage the definition and resolution of all main functional interfaces.
- Provide expertise and support for integrated on‑board functionality.
- Support Tender and Bid teams in vehicle integration, ensuring alignment with system configuration and architecture deliverables.
- Define subsystem and system integrated test plans and procedures affecting the vehicle and its interfaces.
- Assist the project team with customer requests, clarification, design review, and requirements analysis.
- Attend and support FAT, SAT, SIT, and lab tests.
- Support execution of system commissioning, focusing on vehicle and telecom‑related tests and procedures.
- Ensure that each component of the transport system performs correctly and consistently with contractual requirements and applicable standards.
- Contribute to overall system architecture design by identifying interfaces among onboard, wayside, and central subsystems.
- Prepare telecom integration & physical architecture deliverables, such as:
- Overall System Architecture drawings (Level 0,1,2)
- Vehicle System Architecture drawing
- Main Data Flows Overview diagram
- Main Subsystems Functional Interfaces diagram
- Time Synchronization (Master Clock) Architecture diagram
- Doors Coordination and Timing chronogram and document
- Test Track Architecture diagram
- Training Center Architecture diagram
- LAB or testing platform diagram
- System architecture management plan document
- System architecture technical description document
- Other preliminary architectural diagrams as needed
- Manage reviews/comments from subsystems through VAS/G‑FOR process and internal/official submission to the client.
- Ensure delivery of system architecture monitoring to control interface and performance key factors.
- Define and verify main functional interfaces through Functional Interfaces drawings.
- Support system guidelines for alarms, events management, and HMI design.
- Ensure integration design activities for all telecom subsystems within the TLC‑TLC and TLC‑external systems.
- Identify and manage main internal and external interfaces.
- Support site tests relevant to telecom integration/stress testing to assure overall performance.
- Support troubleshooting and reverse engineering during revenue service period.
Requirements and Soft Skills
- Engineering master’s degree (electronic, computer science, telecommunications, electrical).
- Preferred experience in design and configuration of transport systems, railway vehicles, rolling stock subsystems, and automation of transportation systems.
- Capability to drive and manage the definition and resolution of multiple interfaces in complex integrated systems.
- Global perspective in design processes, able to extrapolate key factors and data in complex technical scenarios.
- Ability to work on multiple and different projects simultaneously.
- Strong goal‑oriented approach to activity execution.
- Ability to synthesize project and contractual requirements.
- Orientation to innovation and efficiency.
- Strong problem‑solving approach in integration and functional interface processes.
- Capability to perform reverse engineering and performance analysis.
- Good command of written and spoken English.
- Strong teamwork ability and commitment to team spirit.
- Availability to travel nationally/internationally on short notice and work abroad for short‑ to medium‑term assignments.
Education & Qualifications
Technical degree or equivalent technical background.
Languages
Good English proficiency.
