Introduction

This is an exceptional opportunity for an accomplished Chief Technical Officer or Technical Director to lead the technological vision of a pioneering European space company. The position offers the opportunity to lead innovation across optical, mechanical, and electronic systems, driving the company’s R&D strategy and future product development.


The Opportunity

You’ll join an industry leader in advanced opto-mechanical solutions for space applications. With a strong engineering culture and global reputation for precision and innovation, the company is seeking a forward-thinking technical leader to shape its technology roadmap, strengthen cross-domain collaboration, and foster excellence across engineering teams.

As CTO/TD, you’ll define long-term technical direction, support system architecture decisions, and ensure consistent standards of quality, performance, and innovation across the company’s product lines. This role reports directly to the group CEO.


Key Responsibilities

  • Define and maintain the company’s long-term technology roadmap.
  • Oversee R&D programs aimed at developing reusable and scalable solutions.
  • Lead engineering capability heads across mechanical, optical, electronic, and systems domains.
  • Drive convergence, efficiency, and standardisation in technical processes.
  • Support key system-level design decisions in collaboration with project teams.
  • Promote adoption of digital tools, modelling, and simulation in product development.
  • Represent the company in innovation partnerships with academia and industry.


Essential Skills and Experience

  • Degree in Aerospace Engineering or related technical discipline.
  • Proven leadership experience in managing multi-disciplinary engineering teams in a space focused environment.
  • Strong background in complex system design and integration.
  • Strategic mindset with an ability to anticipate and adapt to emerging technologies.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and decision-making skills.
  • Passion for innovation and commitment to technical excellence.
