Technical Director – Solar & BESS Milan (very flexible, hybrid model. Open to commuters) Leap29 is supporting a newly established, fast-growing renewable energy IPP based in Milan, backed by a major UK energy group. The company develops, builds and operates utility-scale solar, agrivoltaic and BESS projects across Italy and is entering an active phase of project execution. As part of its growth, the company is seeking a hands-on Technical Director to lead technical delivery across its portfolio, with a strong focus on construction oversight, on-site execution and technical quality control. The organisation operates a flexible working model, typically requiring 1–2 days per week in the Milan office. Responsibilities Lead technical delivery from late-stage development through construction and commissioning Oversee site engineers and construction managers across active projects Act as the primary technical authority during the execution phase Manage and supervise EPC contractors, ensuring quality, timeline and budget adherence Provide technical oversight on plant design optimisation (PV, agrivoltaics and BESS integration) Coordinate technical matters with grid operators and external engineering advisors Supervise testing, commissioning and handover through to COD Identify and resolve on-site technical issues, ensuring compliance with Italian regulations and grid requirements Support the establishment of internal technical standards and best practices as the platform scales Requirements 8 years’ experience in utility-scale solar project delivery Strong experience overseeing construction of ground-mounted PV plants (5–30MW) Proven track record managing EPC contractors and site teams Experience integrating BESS into solar projects is advantageous Solid understanding of Italian grid connection and regulatory framework Engineering degree (Electrical, Energy, Civil or similar) Fluent Italian and strong English Willingness to travel regularly to project sites across Italy This is a senior, high-impact opportunity within a growing IPP, suited to a technically strong and operationally hands-on leader who enjoys being close to project execution and playing a central role in building a long-term renewable energy platform.
