Technical Director – Solar & BESS

Milan (very flexible, hybrid model. Open to commuters)

Leap29 is supporting a newly established, fast-growing renewable energy IPP based in Milan, backed by a major UK energy group. The company develops, builds and operates utility-scale solar, agrivoltaic and BESS projects across Italy and is entering an active phase of project execution.

As part of its growth, the company is seeking a hands-on Technical Director to lead technical delivery across its portfolio, with a strong focus on construction oversight, on-site execution and technical quality control.

The organisation operates a flexible working model, typically requiring 1–2 days per week in the Milan office.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical delivery from late-stage development through construction and commissioning
  • Oversee site engineers and construction managers across active projects
  • Act as the primary technical authority during the execution phase
  • Manage and supervise EPC contractors, ensuring quality, timeline and budget adherence
  • Provide technical oversight on plant design optimisation (PV, agrivoltaics and BESS integration)
  • Coordinate technical matters with grid operators and external engineering advisors
  • Supervise testing, commissioning and handover through to COD
  • Identify and resolve on-site technical issues, ensuring compliance with Italian regulations and grid requirements
  • Support the establishment of internal technical standards and best practices as the platform scales

Requirements

  • 8+ years’ experience in utility-scale solar project delivery
  • Strong experience overseeing construction of ground-mounted PV plants (5–30MW+)
  • Proven track record managing EPC contractors and site teams
  • Experience integrating BESS into solar projects is advantageous
  • Solid understanding of Italian grid connection and regulatory framework
  • Engineering degree (Electrical, Energy, Civil or similar)
  • Fluent Italian and strong English
  • Willingness to travel regularly to project sites across Italy

This is a senior, high-impact opportunity within a growing IPP, suited to a technically strong and operationally hands-on leader who enjoys being close to project execution and playing a central role in building a long-term renewable energy platform.
