Maurits is the owner of one of the world’s most important private collections dedicated to Maurits Cornelis Escher, featuring over 700 works including his most iconic masterpieces and pieces by artists connected to his vision. For more than 20 years, Maurits has produced internationally acclaimed exhibitions, attracting millions of visitors worldwide, from Milan and Rome to Singapore, New York City, Tokyo, Montreal, Madrid and Barcelona.
Alongside exhibition production, Maurits places strong emphasis on the design of immersive and interactive installations. The company invests significantly in the development of original multimedia content, including digital stations, animations, and audiovisual environments, designed to deliver engaging, educational, and accessible experiences.
You will work in close collaboration with Covision Lab , a research and innovation center based in Bressanone, founded in 2019 by seven multinational technology companies. Covision Lab specializes in artificial intelligence and computer vision, with a focus on deep learning, embedded vision, and 3D sensing. By collaborating with industrial partners and university researchers, like the "Vision Computing and Learning Research Lab" the "Extended reality XR Lab" at the University of Bolzano, or the “Multisensory Interactions Lab" at the University of Trento, the lab translates advanced research into practical, real-world solutions.
Together, Maurits and Covision Lab are shaping the next generation of immersive cultural experiences, blending artistic heritage with cutting-edge technology.
Our vision for this role:
As Mid-Level Technical Artist you will help bring our immersive VR experiences to life. You will work with Unreal Engine to create optimized 3D environments, support character rigging and animation workflows, and ensure everything runs smoothly on standalone VR headsets (Android/Pico).
How you will help:
- You’ll create and import optimized 3D environment assets for standalone VR devices
- You’ll build efficient materials, shaders, and lighting setups in Unreal Engine
- You’ll assemble polished, immersive VR environments with strong performance
- You’ll support character rigging, skinning, and animation pipelines
- You’ll work with engineers to integrate motion capture data into procedural animation systems for real-time avatar control.
- Profile and optimize scenes to maintain smooth framerates on mobile VR
- Collaborate closely with designers, artists, and engineers
- Contribute to documentation, workflow improvements, and small internal tools
The capabilities we are looking for:
- Solid experience with Unreal Engine 5 (materials, lighting, asset workflows)
- Experience in assembling and lighting realistic Game/VR environments
- Understanding of mobile/VR performance constraints
- Ability to create optimized 3D assets (Blender, Maya, 3ds Max, etc.)
- Experience with character rigging, skeletal systems, and animation import/retargeting
- Basic Blueprint knowledge for workflow helpers

Basic requirements:
- 2+ years in commercial Unreal Engine projects on real-time 3D, game development, or VR
- Experience with 3d scene/assets performance analysis and optimization (usage of unreal profiling tools, polycount reduction, material simplification, lightmap managing, mobile constraints, etc…)
- Proficiency with 3D tools such as Blender, Maya, or similar.
- Familiarity with version control (Git, Perforce, PlasticSCM)
- Strong communicator in writing and person in English (must), preferably also in Italian and/or German.
- Creative, proactive and collaborative attitude
