Summary
The purpose of the Child and Youth Program (CYP) Assistant Youth Sports and Fitness (YSF) Coordinator position is to assist the YSF Coordinator in the administration of Navy Youth Sports and Fitness (YSF) programs to enable Navy families to balance the competing demands of family life and military readiness by providing rewarding opportunities for youth to be physically active and exposed to positive lifestyle behaviors. Duties
Program Management
Assists with the development and oversight of a developmentally appropriate YSF program, which includes the YSF Core Service Areas of Sports, Fitness, Health and Nutrition, Outdoor Recreation and Motor Skills Development. Assists in supporting the principles, administration, rules and regulations of the YSF program which are consistent with those of the National Association for Youth Sports (NAYS) or other affiliated organization. Assists in the provision of individual and group fitness and sports programs to include activities such as running, aerobic classes, tennis, golf, team sports, sports clinics, leagues and tournaments, which ensures achievements of youth are recognized formally and informally. Instructs participants in those YSF activities for which the employee has technical expertise (e.g., volleyball, soccer, and other related sports and fitness activities.) Assists in the development and organization of supplemental YSF activities based on the expressed and observed needs and interests of patrons such as special event tournaments, and trips necessary to support related activities which may include parents and other family members. Assists the YSF Coordinator in the recruitment of coaches and volunteers and ensures all coaches, officials and other related direct program support personnel are trained and have appropriate credentials. Assists in collaborating with other military installations in planning fitness and sports activities, as applicable, and where available within the local community coordinates with area programs that offer these programs, such as the local running club, Boys and Girls Clubs of America (BGCA), 4H, Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA), Parks and Recreation, etc. Indoor/Outdoor Environment
Assists in ensuring space is available and adequate to meet all programming needs and is reflective of and inviting to program participants and spectators. Verifies the safe and proper conditions of all fields, courts, facilities, areas and grounds utilized by the YSF program. Coordinates the field maintenance. Assists in the preparation of the program space for scheduled activities and ensures all safety requirements are met prior to use of the area, to ensure recurring scheduled and/or immediate repairs and maintenance services are performed to meet both safety and program activity specifics. Assists with maintaining and securing the necessary supplies and equipment to support the programs and activities offered and ensures that all equipment and supplies are age-appropriate and in good condition. Assists in the inventory of supplies and equipment on a recurring basis and recommends replenishing those that are damaged, missing, or depleted. Reports any unsafe equipment and/or environmental discrepancy to supervisor and removes items if applicable. Assists with rescheduling or realigning any/all activities to ensure maximum safety and age appropriateness of venues offered. Assists in ensuring the YSF program is in compliance with all fire, safety and security rules and regulations. Interactions and Relationships
Assists in establishing a YSF program that sustains participant interest and promotes positive interactions between children, youth and adults. Assists in ensuring appropriate sportsman-like conduct is maintained, via behavior modeling by CYP employees, volunteer coaches and other adult participants (i.e., team parents and referees). Participates actively and positively in managing and resolving issues with parents, volunteers, and/or employees. Uses appropriate child and youth guidance techniques that encourages positive social interactions, promotes conflict resolution, and develops self-control, self-motivation and self-esteem. Interacts professionally with employees, parents, volunteers and local installation command personnel. Participates actively and positively in managing and resolving issues with parents, volunteers and/or employees. Personnel Management
Supervises a staff of three or more. Compliance
Assists with implementation and support of policies and procedures to ensure compliance with health, fire, safety, facility, and program regulatory guidance and standards. Assists in ensuring compliance with law, policies, and regulations applicable to DoD CYP programs. Assists in obtaining and retaining DoD certification and accreditation. Assists with the development and provision of programs related to the core program areas outlined in the OPNAV and required by the DoN such as Boys and Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) or 4-H required programs. Assumes responsibilities and perform duties and requirements of the YSF Coordinator in his/her absence. Assists in preparation of grant applications for additional funding. Serves as a mandatory reporter to Family Advocacy and
