As a Senior Principal Scientist in AGI, you will have deep subject matter expertise in large language models and generative AI across various modalities. You will work with multiple teams of scientists and engineers to translate business and functional requirements into concrete deliverables.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define key research directions and adopt or invent new machine‑learning techniques.
  • Conduct rigorous experiments and publish results, ensuring research is translated into practice.
  • Develop long‑term strategies, persuade teams to adopt those strategies, and propose measurable goals.
  • Participate in organizational planning, hiring, mentorship, and leadership development.
  • Serve as a key scientific resource throughout the full‑cycle development process: conception, design, implementation, testing, documentation, delivery, and maintenance.
  • Lead scientific reviews and critiques, scrutinizing experimental design, modeling, verification, and other research procedures.
  • Mentor scientists, contribute to career growth, and play a significant role in hiring and developing talent.

Amazon’s AGI team focuses on building foundational AI to solve real‑world problems at scale, delivering value to all existing Amazon businesses and enabling entirely new services and products for people and enterprises worldwide.

Basic Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or related field.
  • Experience building complex, real‑time AI/ML/NLP systems with successful delivery to customers.
  • Demonstrated track record of delivering large, cross‑functional projects with evolving requirements.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD with specialization in artificial intelligence, natural language processing, machine learning, or computational cognitive science and 10+ years of combined academic and research experience.
  • First‑author research on scaling laws, evaluation metrics, data mixture optimization, data efficiency, and neural‑network architectures in top‑tier journals and conferences.
  • Functional thought leader sought after for key technical decisions; able to effectively sell ideas to executive‑level decision makers.
  • Mentor and train the research scientist community on complex technical issues.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills with successful delivery to customers.

  • USA, WA, Bellevue – $240,100 – $324,800 annually
