Within this mission, the National Facility for Structural Biology (a scientific and technological hub for integrative structural biology) provides support and services in the fields of Cryo‑Electron Microscopy, Biomass Production, Biophysics, Structural Proteomics, and Single Molecule Dynamics. In particular, the Biophysics Unit manages equipment and provides services and support to researchers for the biophysical characterisation of macromolecular samples and for the determination and characterisation of interaction affinities.

We are seeking a specialist in structural biology, biochemistry, or biophysics to cover the maternity leave of one of our team members. You will actively participate in maintaining instruments and workflows, take part in scientific collaborations, and support both internal and external users.

By Joining the Unit, you will be expected to

  • perform routine maintenance and management of the Unit’s equipment;
  • introduce and train internal and external users in the use of the Unit’s equipment, and how to obtain the best results from planned biophysical experiments;
  • perform experiments and provide services for non‑autonomous users, in accordance with Unit and National Facility best practices;
  • perform data analysis and interpretation, and support users in these activities.

Additional activities may include, but are not limited to

  • actively participating in resource planning and in the maintenance of Unit equipment and consumables;
  • assisting with interactions with manufacturers and field service engineers in the event of technical issues or equipment malfunctions;
  • managing technological development projects aimed at advancing the Unit and the Institute’s scientific environment;
  • actively participating in National Facility and Unit reviews by external and internal experts;
  • promoting networks with other national and international Facilities and Units.

Essential Requirements

  • Master’s degree or PhD in a scientific discipline;
  • Fluency in English, as HT is an international research institute.

Preferential Requirements

  • Knowledge of biochemical and/or biophysical characterisation of macromolecular samples;
  • Experience in protein expression and purification;
  • Experience with protein and/or nucleic acid chromatography;
  • Professional experience in the field of structural biology.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to build trust through operating with transparency and creating an open and collaborative environment;
