What you’ll be doing

As a Software Engineer, Backend in the Consumer Features team, you’ll play a key role in building and scaling the services that our users interact with daily. You will work on mission‑critical features that drive app engagement, increase transaction volumes, and simplify money management for millions. Here’s what your day‑to‑day will look like.

• Own the End-to-End Lifecycle: Design, build, test, and operate mission‑critical consumer features—from technical design to production—using Java, Spring Boot, and PostgreSQL.
• Build & Scale High‑Impact Features: Develop and maintain core user functionalities such as our BNPL ("Pay in 3") experience, Gift Card flows, Mobile Top‑ups, and Personal IBAN/SCT wire transfers to drive engagement and transaction volume.
• Enhance Payments Mechanics: Improve the backend logic and reliability of budget mechanisms and scheduled top‑ups, ensuring the app's payment mechanics are clear, scalable, and reliable for millions of users.
• Master a Modern Tech Stack: Take ownership of our AWS‑based infrastructure (EC2/ECS, S3, Lambda, Kinesis) and drive architectural improvements to ensure smooth integration across microservices.
• Work in an AI‑Powered Environment: Leverage AI tools daily to write and optimise code, speed up root‑cause analysis, and generate documentation, raising the bar for engineering efficiency.
• Solve Complex & Ambiguous Problems: Turn vague user needs into scalable technical solutions, balancing delivery speed with technical quality and long‑term maintainability.
• Collaborate & Lead Quality: Work cross‑functionally with Product and UX/UI teams while actively contributing to code reviews, post‑mortems, and refactoring initiatives to promote engineering best practices.
• Drive System Reliability: Debug complex issues across services, investigate production incidents, and share learnings with the team to continuously improve system health.

Who we’re looking for

We are looking for a dynamic and solution‑oriented individual who excels in product‑focused engineering and cross‑functional collaboration. Does it sound like you?

• Experience: You have at least 3 years of experience as a Backend Engineer in fast‑paced environments with a strong track record of building and maintaining scalable microservices.
• Technical Foundations: solid expertise in Java & Spring Boot, with exposure to cloud (AWS is a plus) and relational databases.
• User Focus: you care about performance, reliability, and clean business logic.
• Teamwork and Communication: you are able to excel at cross‑functional collaboration and clear communication (technical & non‑technical).
• Passion and Language Skills: you are passionate about FinTech and/or startup environments and fluent in English.
