Software Development Engineer, Amazon Redshift Query Optimizer

Amazon Redshift is a fully managed cloud data warehouse used by tens of thousands of enterprise customers to handle exabytes of data and support data‑driven decisions. In the query optimization team, you will help develop the parallel‑aware query optimizer that generates optimal execution plans for complex and tactical queries on Redshift’s mass‑parallel processing engine.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain systems that benefit Redshift clusters worldwide.
• Own the product vision by defining new features and architecture.
• Translate complex and ambiguous requirements into clear, actionable projects that deliver value to customers.
• Develop end‑to‑end deliverables – from design and coding to deployment, monitoring, and operations.
• Lead engineering teams on substantial projects and mentor/hire engineers.

Basic Qualifications

• 3+ years of non‑internship professional software development experience.
• 2+ years of non‑internship design or architecture experience (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) for new or existing systems.
• 1+ year of software development engineer or related occupational experience.
• 1+ year designing and developing large‑scale, multi‑tiered, multi‑threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using C#, C++, Java, or Perl.
• 1+ year of object‑oriented design experience.
• Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language.

Preferred Qualifications

• 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
• Master’s degree in computer science or equivalent.

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary range: USA, CA, East Palo Alto – $165,200.00 – $223,600.00 USD annually.
