Adjunct Faculty – Social Work – Sigonella, Italy
University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks adjunct faculty to teach on‑site in Italy for the Social Work program. This position is a field‑focused, practice‑based role supporting students in their field placements. Responsibilities include experiential instruction, supervision support, and applied mentorship tied to CSWE field education outcomes, rather than traditional classroom‑based course instruction.
Required Education and Experience
- Master's degree in Social Work or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning and a currently active LCSW license.
- At least two years post‑master's professional experience in the Social Work field.
- Experience teaching adult learners online and in higher education is strongly preferred.
- Local applicants only. Adjunct faculty positions are not eligible for UMGC‑sponsored logistical support. Applicants must maintain their own legal status in Italy.
Role Responsibilities
- Actively engage students through frequent interaction that motivates them to succeed and conveys genuine energy and enthusiasm.
- Guide students in active collaboration and the application of their learning in problem‑ and project‑based learning demonstrations.
- Provide rich and regular constructive feedback, utilizing rubrics effectively for assessment of student work, and acknowledging student accomplishments.
- Demonstrate relevant and current subject‑matter expertise, helping students connect concepts across their academic program.
- Provide feedback to the program chair on possible curricular improvements.
Program Context
The Social Work program is a CSWE accredited program offered by Salisbury University and administered by UMGC Europe. Faculty are approved by Salisbury University and hired by UMGC Europe. Faculty teach in both face‑to‑face and online environments using Canvas LMS.
Orientation and Training
Each new faculty member must successfully complete our online new‑faculty orientation, FacDev122, as a condition of hire.
Compensation
Salary commensurate with experience.
Hiring range by degree:
- Non‑PhD: Step 1 $903 – Step 16 $1,173 per credit hour
- PhD: Step 1 $931 – Step 16 $1,215 per credit hour
Benefits
- Health coverage: Access to health care, medical with vision, dental, and prescription plans for individuals and families, effective from the first of the month following hire. Adjuncts are only eligible for State of Maryland benefits and are responsible for total cost if enrolled.
- Insurance options: Term life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment insurance.
- Supplemental retirement plans: Include 403(b), 457(b), and various Roth options. The university does not provide matching funds.
