Posizione / Role Purpose

Member of the site leadership team, the HSE lead is responsible for:

  • Providing leadership and expertise in all aspects of Health, Safety, and Environment to ensure compliance with local and Syngenta HSE requirements.
  • Implementing, maintaining, auditing, measuring, and improving the HSE management system to enhance HSE performance across all functions and sites, ensuring a License to operate.
  • Promoting a culture of HSE excellence.
  • Acting as a member of the EAME Field Crops HSE Leadership Team and sharing learnings and best practices within the HSE network.

The HSE lead is responsible for the site HSE budget and has full authority to stop unsafe activities or tasks.

Note: Driving business results is not a regular activity for this role.

Accountabilities

Scope

  • Supporting all functions at the key site and satellite stations, including field activities.
  • Leading the site safety committee and being a key member of the site leadership team.

Budget

  • Managing the site HSE budget, including audits, training, PPE, and resources.

People

  • Acting as the key contact for external stakeholders (local authorities, fire brigade, policy) and internal stakeholders (Bus HSE, Work Council).
  • Serving as the counterpart to SFM / CBRE for HSE matters where applicable.

In alignment with EAME strategic objectives and global HSE policy, the HSE lead is responsible for:

  • Defining and leading the HSE strategy and roadmap for all site activities and satellites.
  • Developing, implementing, auditing, and improving HSE processes to ensure compliance with regulatory and corporate standards.
  • Monitoring and tracking the delivery of HSE service level agreements and contracts, including third-party services, to meet site needs at optimal cost without compromising safety or reputation.
  • Ensuring all legal and corporate information is current and accessible, with foresight for legislative and corporate changes.
  • Supporting and advising leaders in their HSE responsibilities.
  • Defining the 5-year HSE CAPEX plan and approving major HSE expenditures and changes.
  • Leading training, development, and certification initiatives for all site employees, including temporary and seasonal staff.
  • Managing HSE documentation and providing guidance in accordance with local regulations.
  • Leading investigations and root cause analyses of accidents, SIF incidents, near misses, and dangerous occurrences, with recommendations for prevention.
  • Developing and managing HSE awareness campaigns.
  • Ensuring all critical activities are risk-assessed with appropriate control measures before execution.
  • Leading risk and management reviews.
  • Monitoring HSE performance, analyzing data, and prioritizing improvements.
  • Leading audit and inspection processes, including for contractors, warehouses, suppliers, and growers.
  • Ensuring KPIs, monitoring, and reporting processes meet local, corporate, and legal requirements.
  • Defining site emergency and crisis response plans and acting as the EMS coordinator.
  • Managing local triage roles within Enablon (if no coordinator).
  • Leading site HSE communication efforts.
  • Defining contractor management processes and conducting audits.
  • Supporting the FLP lead regarding HSE requirements.
  • Ensuring compliance with waste management regulations, including registration and renewal of waste streams.

Requisiti / Requirements

  • Diploma in Safety Management and/or NEBOSH/IOSH diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years of experience in an HSE lead role within industry or agricultural operations.
  • Knowledge of local and international HSE laws and regulations.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a multinational environment.
  • Excellent leadership and control skills.
  • Proficiency in both oral and written English communication.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities efficiently.
  • A pragmatic approach to maintaining and improving HSE standards in the workplace.
