Senior Technical Buyer
Identis is a global leader in secure ID issuance and financial card personalization solutions. Through innovative hardware, software, and services, we provide high-quality, scalable solutions to banks, government agencies, and businesses worldwide.
We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Technical Buyer to join our Operations organization. The individual will play a key role in defining sourcing strategies and managing strategic suppliers for critical commodities supporting the production of electromechanical systems and industrial equipment.
This role requires strong technical purchasing expertise, negotiation capabilities, and a deep understanding of manufacturing environments. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in sourcing and supplier management of raw materials, metal parts, electronic components, and plastic components, with responsibility for cost optimization, supplier performance, quality, and supply continuity.
The position will work closely with Engineering, R&D, Operations, Production Planning, and Quality departments, contributing to both new product development and operational excellence initiatives.
Responsibilities
Strategic Procurement & Commodity Management
• Define and implement sourcing strategies for assigned commodity groups
• Manage supplier portfolios and develop long-term strategic partnerships
• Lead supplier selection, qualification, and performance management activities
• Negotiate pricing agreements, contracts, payment terms, lead times, and service levels
• Identify and execute cost reduction initiatives while maintaining quality and delivery standards
• Monitor market trends, commodity pricing, and supply chain risks
Technical Purchasing
• Manage procurement activities related to:
Raw Materials
Metal Parts and Machined Components
Sheet Metal and Fabricated Parts
Electronic Components (PCBAs, power supplies, sensors, connectors, displays, motors, etc.)
Plastic Components and Injection-Molded Parts
• Analyze technical drawings, specifications, BOMs, and manufacturing requirements
• Support Engineering and R&D teams during supplier selection for new product developments
• Evaluate supplier technical capabilities and manufacturing processes
• Collaborate with Engineering on value engineering and design-to-cost initiatives
• Participate in product industrialization and supplier development projects
Supplier Development & Performance
• Establish and monitor supplier KPIs related to quality, cost, delivery, and responsiveness
• Conduct supplier reviews and performance improvement programs
• Support supplier audits together with Quality and Operations teams
• Develop risk mitigation and dual sourcing strategies for critical commodities
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives throughout the supply base
Supply Chain & Operations Support
• Ensure material availability to support production plans and customer commitments
• Manage supplier escalations and critical shortages
• Support inventory optimization initiatives and procurement planning activities
• Coordinate with Production Planning and Operations to improve supply reliability and responsiveness
• Contribute to supply chain resilience and business continuity initiatives
Requirements
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Economics, or related disciplines
• Minimum 8-10 years of experience in Technical Purchasing, Strategic Sourcing, or Commodity Management within industrial manufacturing environments
• Strong technical understanding of manufacturing processes including machining, sheet metal fabrication, plastic injection molding, PCB assembly, and electromechanical systems
• Experience negotiating with international suppliers and managing global sourcing activities
• Strong knowledge of cost breakdown analysis and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) methodologies
• Experience working with ERP/MRP systems and procurement analytics tools
• Ability to read and understand technical drawings and engineering documentation
• Fluent English
Preferred Experience
• Experience in electromechanical, automation, industrial equipment, electronics, automotive, medical devices, payment systems, or high-tech manufacturing sectors
• Experience managing suppliers across Europe and Asia
• Knowledge of supplier quality processes and APQP methodologies
• Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement principles
• Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) projects

Competitive compensation package, with a gross annual salary range between €50,000 and €80,000, depending on the candidate’s experience, skills, and overall profile. Additional variable compensation and benefits package included.
