Video Cloud Support Engineering

Our Sky Italia Distribution team is looking for a passionate Video Cloud Support Engineer to work across multiple systems focused on video acquisition, routing, encoding and processing for multiple broadcasting and streaming services in Italy, Germany, and UK. You will support video delivery across our multi‑platform ecosystem (DTH, OTT, IPTV, DTT), ensuring the highest possible video quality for all Sky customers.
The role involves continuous service monitoring, identifying and mitigating performance issues by analyzing KPIs and acting accordingly to prevent service degradation. In collaboration with other operations and engineering teams, you will also support new business initiatives according to our work‑intake process, ensuring seamless implementation and optimal video experience. Responsibilities include diagnosing issues, implementing fixes, and validating results.
To ensure consistent service availability, the role requires participation in on‑call shift rotations.
Basic Qualifications
- A degree in Media Technologies, Telecommunications, Computer Science Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent relevant experience
- Strong, positive, and influential communication skills; ability to engage effectively with colleagues and coach others
- Familiarity with Linux and bash scripting
- Experience with one or more programming languages such as Go, Python or Java
- Ability to troubleshoot, identify root causes, and analyze logs
- Demonstrated commitment to operational excellence
- Previous experience in development and/or technical support
- Ability to work shifts as required to meet operational coverage needs
- Excellent command of English (written and spoken)
Preferred Qualifications
- Good knowledge of Broadcast IP standards and implementations, including SMPTE 2022, SMPTE 2110
- Strong knowledge of video compression techniques and transport stream analysis, including MPEG-TS structure, PID mapping, and timing validation
- Familiarity with major video and audio codecs (H.264/AVC, H.265/HEVC, AV1, AAC, Dolby Digital) and streaming formats such as HLS and MPEG-DASH
- Understanding of cloud technologies (AWS, GCP) Experience with Container orchestrations (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Experience using CI/CD tools and RESTful APIs Ability to work effectively with cross‑functional teams and adapt to different technical skill levels in a highly dynamic environment
- Creative problem‑solving skills, especially when procedures are undefined or incomplete
- Experience with monitoring and log aggregation tools (e.g., ELK Stack, Grafana, Dataminer, Zabbix, checkmk)
