Topcon Positioning System is looking for a qualified individual to fill the role of Senior Software Engineer, Field Survey Applications . Work location: TOPCON Office located in Concordia sulla Secchia – Modena (Italy). The job can be performed 100% remote (Italy), with occasional visits to our Concordia office.

Job Purpose

As part of the company development strategy, we need to grow talent in key areas to continue the development of our software products. The Senior Software Engineer will work on the development of Field software for Windows, Linux, Android and iOS to support a wide range of Topcon and third‑party equipment such as GNSS receivers, robotic optical total stations, depth finders and laser range finders.

Core Job Responsibilities

• Work with the project manager, team leader and software team to plan and manage delivery schedules.
• Act as the single point of contact for all issues related to a particular software module development, high‑level design and delivery, and coordinate with other engineering disciplines.
• Evaluate and schedule all changes in the scope of the module design and delivery.
• Perform modules maintenance, modifications and enhancements to new and existing systems through programming, testing and documenting.
• Develop services and applications, working as part of embedded firmware for custom hardware.
• Follow, recommend and implement software processes.
• Provide technical direction to others as needed.
• Analyze and resolve technical and application problems.

Education & Experience

• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Electronics or a related field.
• Overall software development experience of at least 5 years.
• 3+ years of professional experience in C++ development.
• Experience with computational geometry, spatial algorithms and/or 3D rendering (DirectX, OpenGL) is required.
• Knowledge of QML and/or MFC is required.
• Experience in software development process implementation.
• Experience with software development tools (configuration management, design, emulation, debugging, compilers, testing, etc.).
• Experience with geodesy, GNSS and/or optical survey; CAD knowledge is a plus.
• Experience with Android or iOS development is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills & Attributes

• Strong understanding of object‑oriented programming and software design principles.
• Knowledge of algorithms, data structures and multithreading concepts.
• Familiarity with cross‑platform development and GUI frameworks.
• Expert knowledge in C++, Standard Library and Boost.
• Understanding of SQL databases such as SQLite is a plus.
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
• Knowledge of bug tracking systems (JIRA) and version control systems.
• Knowledge of Docker is a plus.
• A good command of the English language (written and spoken) is required.
• Knowledge of geometry, eigen, CGAL, tin, surfaces, corridors, roading, parametric curves, splines, Bentley, Autodesk, Civil3D, Revit, DWG, ODA, cogo, geodesy, coordinate systems, LandXML, shapefile, las, point clouds and numerical methods is a real asset.
• Knowledge of additional skills such as C++20, Boost, ASIO, static analysis, memory optimization, C++ templates, SQL, multithreading and lock‑free programming is an advantage.
