Senior Software Engineer, Core Experiences - Milan, Italy

Overview
We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Core Experiences Team. This team builds and maintains foundational services and SDKs that power Speechify’s product experience across platforms. The role combines product and infrastructure work, focusing on designing clear, reliable APIs and simple systems that enhance the user experience.
What You’ll Do
Collaborate with Product teams to scope projects, reduce scope for faster customer feedback, navigate integration/UX tradeoffs for different product teams, and deliver solutions via our cross‑platform SDK.
Optimize existing functionality to ship faster loading, more intelligent parsing, and other performance improvements by designing efficient abstractions and improving algorithms.
Ship cloud functions, lightweight backend services, and jobs using Kotlin.
An Ideal Candidate Should Have
Systems thinking: end-to-end design with a preference for simplicity.
Speed: the ability to generate ideas quickly and decide what can ship now versus later.
Focus: capacity to work in a high-growth, remote team with when to engage or work independently.
Collaboration: ability to inspire and collaborate with designers, marketers, and PMs.
Preferred Tech Stack: Kotlin Multiplatform (Java experience acceptable but role is Kotlin Multiplatform); Prior experience with GCP is a plus.

Salary
The Italy-based salary range for this role is 30,000–80,000 USD per year, plus bonus and stock, depending on experience.
