About the Opportunity
Hitachi Energy is looking for a Senior Manager, Software Development to lead development of Network Control products for one of the company’s most strategic projects.
The Senior Manager, Software Development is responsible for leading multi-disciplinary, global development scrum teams in the planning, development, management and tracking of delivery releases that meet committed scope, timeline, and budgetary requirements in compliance with quality standards and goals. They will direct and provide oversight to multiple technical global teams, ensuring successful development and delivery of Network Control products.
This role manages the full software development lifecycle for the teams, may perform product design, bug verification, and beta support requiring technical research and analysis. Responsibilities include ensuring adherence to software development processes defined by multiple discipline practice areas and supporting the governance of those review processes. The role reports to the Global Head of R&D Network Control and collaborates with PMO, Product Management, Quality, Security, and relevant global stakeholders.
Key Impact Areas
- Deliver top-quality products on time and on budget.
- Act as escalation point for issues beyond project team authority; resolve conflicts involving scheduling, resources, or technical issues.
- Work closely with senior engineers and stakeholders to develop best technical design and approach.
- Instill best practices for software development and documentation, assure designs meet requirements.
- Project management – prioritization, planning, stakeholder management, tracking external commitments.
- Facilitate scrum ceremonies (Planning, Retrospective, Grooming & Review/Demo) as needed.
- Resolve impediments timely and cost-effectively, acting as conduit to other teams.
- Track and produce key metrics (e.g., burn-down, burn-up charts, cumulative flow diagram).
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in power system engineering or computer science with power system engineering background.
- Over 10 years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with network control and software technologies such as SCADA, EMS, GMS, Power System Applications.
- Ability to lead global, multicultural software development teams across time zones, managing multiple priorities with ambiguous requirements.
- Practical problem solving and strategic thinking skills, critical thinker, self-starter.
- Excellent communication skills with all levels of employees and both internal and external customers—including presentations, negotiations, and written reports.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining strategic direction and a detailed focus.
- Willingness to dive into details and provide support to make things happen.
- Demonstrated success with demanding schedule constraints and technically challenging programs.
- International experience with global projects and collaboration with multicultural teams, a global mindset.
- Proactive, collaborative, flexible attitude.
- Software architecture background.
