Role Summary
Act as the Senior Project Manager within the PMC team for the delivery of an data centre campus. Oversee all aspects of project delivery — from design coordination through construction, testing, commissioning, and handover — on behalf of the Employer. Serve as the day-to-day lead managing the EPC Contractor, design consultants, and statutory authority interfaces. Ensure delivery on time, within budget, and to the highest quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Strategy
Support development of the project management strategy within 10 business days of commencement
Prepare and maintain the master timeline schedule in Primavera P6 format, recording principal activities and critical path(s)
Develop co-ordinated design and procurement strategy with clear milestone sequencing
Produce the Project Execution Plan covering all aspects of design and construction
Design Phase Management
Monitor the Contractor’s design production in terms of schedule and quality
Manage the design review process in liaison with Other Consultants
Monitor Contractor’s applications for statutory approvals and consents
Ensure the project area schedule is established in accordance with Employer requirements
Construction Phase Management
Manage all project activities to support timely delivery in accordance with milestone dates
Check that all design, approval, procurement, and construction activities are co-ordinated per baseline programme
Monitor procurement planning to establish whether supply and delivery chains are in line with targets
Review and comment on the Contractor’s monthly progress reports
Monitor that only appropriately qualified staff are employed on-site by the Contractor
HSE & Quality
Champion zero-accident culture on the project
Develop the Component Project HSE Plan within 30 business days
Monitor and manage the QA/QC procedures of all Consultants and Contractors
Establish snagging regime using appropriate technology
Manage non-conformance register and ensure prompt close-out
Reporting & Stakeholder Management
Produce monthly Progress Reports (procurement status, baseline vs plan, cash flow, cost data, claims, key issues)
Produce weekly dashboards (cash flow forecast, key issues, HSE performance, site progress)
Chair project progress meetings; issue minutes within 1 business day
Coordinate with Employer, Other Consultants, EPC Contractor, and tenant stakeholders
Liaise with Governmental Authorities for statutory approvals and permitting
Testing, Commissioning & Handover
Monitor planning and execution of all tests under the Construction Contract
Assist in the final commissioning of the project
Manage the Taking Over process: snagging inspections, defects lists, certification
Oversee receipt of O&M manuals, as-built documents, warranties, and spare parts
Manage operational handover to Employer/Tenant operations team
Requirements
Essential
Minimum 15-20 years of project management experience, with significant portion in Italy
Proven track record managing data centre construction projects (20MW+ IT capacity)
Experience with Design & Build / EPC procurement routes on large infrastructure
Strong knowledge of Italian construction regulations , permitting, and statutory approval processes
Proficiency with Primavera P6 and project controls/reporting tools
Experience managing projects to Tier III+ data centre standards
Fluent in Italian and English (both written and spoken)
Preferred
Experience in the Lombardy region
Previous work with Middle East-based developers (Khazna, Pure DC, etc.)
Knowledge of FIDIC or bespoke EPC contract forms
Familiarity with LEED Gold certification processes
Understanding of data centre MEP systems (HV/LV power, cooling, BMS, fire suppression)
HSE qualifications (NEBOSH, IOSH, Italian CSP/CSE)
PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent professional certification
Experience with multi-phase campus developments and phased fit-out strategies
