The Role
We are seeking a Senior Project Engineer to act as the primary technical reference for Italy within Rubicon’s EMEA Tech Services team.
This is a senior, highly technical role focused on:
· Field-based technical prospecting
· Hydraulic and technical design
· Engineering development during proposal and pre-project phases
The position is specifically focused on open-channel (free-surface) irrigation systems , including gravity-fed canals, regulators, and hydraulic control structures.
The role bridges sales, engineering, and projects , ensuring that all solutions are technically robust, well-sized, compliant with Italian standards, and fully aligned with real field and civil works conditions before execution.
Key Responsibilities (Summary)
· Lead hydraulic studies, modelling, and gate sizing for open-channel irrigation networks.
· Support sales and tender activities with strong technical definition and Solution Reports.
· Review and validate civil works designs and technical documentation.
· Act as a senior technical authority supporting project readiness and technical validation.
· Serve as Rubicon’s main technical interlocutor with clients, consultants, and authorities in Italy.
· Contribute to building a technical centre of excellence in Bologna .
Profile Sought
· Engineering degree (Bachelor required; Master’s degree in Hydraulic / Civil / Water Resources Engineering highly valued ).
· Strong background in open-channel irrigation systems and gravity-fed canal networks .
· Proven ability to interpret hydraulic models and validate them against field conditions.
· Solid exposure to site conditions, civil works, and contractor interfaces.
· Fluency in Italian and English .
· Availability to travel regularly within Italy and occasionally internationally.
