Base pay range
Hi I’m Abhik, Ashby’s Co-Founder and VP of Engineering. We’re looking for an ambitious full‑stack engineer who is laser‑focused on solving customer problems and making the right long‑term investments.
What Ashby gives you in return is the best of both early and growth‑stage environments: the agency and no‑nonsense of a seed startup and the product‑market fit and scale of a growth‑stage startup. Tens of thousands of daily users depend on our software.
We have notable customers such as Notion, Linear, Shopify, and Snowflake. Our growth and retention metrics are best‑in‑class: tens of millions in ARR, >100% YoY growth, and very low churn.
We’re constantly expanding the team and are on track to double this year. We respond to applications within 3‑4 days and focus on building products beyond Talent Acquisition.
About the Role
As a Product Engineer, you’ll own a large portion of one of our products and manage projects end‑to‑end, wearing hats traditionally held by product and design. You’ll research competitors, write specs, create wireframes, and implement features.
- Designed and built automated interview scheduling, solving the “Calendar Tetris” problem.
- Built a generalized declarative filter architecture that compiles complex filters to SQL.
- Specced, designed, and implemented a feature for signing offers entirely within Ashby.
What We’re Building
We’re improving talent acquisition software to be intelligent, powerful, and insightful. Our goal is to give recruiting teams high‑standard tooling that helps them schedule, track, and manage interviews more efficiently.
Why You Should or Shouldn’t Apply
- Comfortable tackling any part of a technology stack, from front‑end to infrastructure.
- Experience with product and technical ambiguity; thrive at the intersection of product and engineering.
- Balanced focus on speed and quality; we move fast but maintain high quality.
- Ambitious, eager to grow, and open to feedback.
- Excellent collaborator and communicator; keep stakeholders informed.
- Driven to create leverage through automation and abstractions.
Put Another Way, You Shouldn’t Apply
- Need company‑driven process and structure to finish projects.
- Desire only exciting work, without day‑to‑day customer collaboration.
- Get lost in details and dislike high‑level project thinking.
- Unfamiliar with ownership; rely on leads for task assignment.
- Want to mentor early‑career engineers in a very senior‑focused team.
- Expect a tech lead role primarily as project manager or architect.
Engineering Culture
Motivated by the belief that a small, talented team given the right environment can build high‑quality software fast.
- Minimal process with ownership over decisions normally made by product and design.
- Natural collaboration and deliberate communication.
- Investing in tools and abstractions that give leverage.
- Commitment to building a diverse team.
Increase Leverage, not Team Size
- Great developer tooling: CI/CD takes ~10 min, 15 deployments per day.
- Reusable building blocks: analytics, policy engine, workflow engine, design system.
Diversity
21% of engineers at Ashby are from underrepresented groups. We support diversity through paid family leave, no LeetCode interviews, and other inclusive policies.
Interview Process
- Introduction call with Hiring Manager (15–30 min).
- A technical screen with pair programming in our codebase (1 h).
- Three non‑coding interviews focused on product thinking, technical design, and infrastructure (3 h 15 min, can span multiple days).
- Optional additional 30‑min recruiter screen.
Your First Three Months at Ashby
You’ll hit the ground running: a single‑script environment setup, first product change on day one, and increasing scope of feature delivery.
Manager reviews at 30, 60, and 90 days to calibrate performance.
Technology Stack
TypeScript (frontend & backend), React, GraphQL API, Node.js, Postgres, Redis. Previous experience is not required; focus is on fundamentals and fast learning.
Benefits
- Competitive salary and equity.
- 10‑year exercise window for stock options.
- Unlimited PTO.

- Generous equipment, software, and office furniture budget.
- $100/month education budget.
- Top‑tier health insurance for US employees; supplemental coverage worldwide.
