Senior Operational Risk Specialist

For a leading client operating in the financial services sector across multiple European markets, we are seeking a Senior Operational Risk Specialist based in Milan.

The role is designed as a senior leader and individual contributor within a non-financial (purely operational ) risk scope, without direct people management responsibilities, and involves regular interaction with senior stakeholders and top management at an international level.

Key Responsabilities

• Contribute to the definition and continuous improvement of the company’s risk management framework, ensuring consistency in policies, procedures, and methodologies across all functions.
• Ensure risk management activities are aligned with applicable regulations and internal governance standards set by senior leadership and relevant committees.
• Oversee risk identification, assessment, and reporting processes, ensuring accurate and timely communication to key stakeholders.
• Collaborate with Business and Support Functions to assess risks and define appropriate mitigation strategies.
• Analyse complex data to produce insights, support decision-making, and manage escalation of critical issues when required.
• Act as a key point of reference for senior stakeholders on risk-related matters, contributing to risk evaluation and decision processes.
• Support the strengthening of risk awareness across the organisation, promoting best practices and a culture of continuous improvement.

Your Profile

• Master’s degree in Economics, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
• Ideal background in highly regulated environments, such as Oil & Gas, Engineering & Infrastructure, Telecommunications, or more broadly project-based/contract-driven businesses.
• Around 7–8 years of professional experience in international contexts.
• Familiarity with financial markets, operations, and/or IT systems would be considered an advantage.
• Sound understanding of risk management frameworks and methodologies.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Effective presentation abilities, with the capacity to convey complex risk topics clearly and concisely.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage at all organisational levels, including senior leadership.
• Proficiency in English, with daily use in a professional environment.
