SENIOR MARINE SAFETY MANAGER


POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Commit to the Company’s Core Values.
  • Assume personal responsibility for safety and NCLH’s impact upon the environment.
  • Monitoring the safety and occupational procedures adopted on board, coordinating the safety related activities between technical, environmental and safety operations and Ship's Management, and assuring enforcement and conformity of procedures within the Fleet.
  • Being aware of changes occurred in the national and international regulations involving safety, assisting with the analysis of applicable Safety codes, regulations, and standards and determined methods to apply them in the most practical way.
  • Implementing crew safety programs and procedures including occupational safety.
  • Providing technical support to the ship and to the shore side management within the area of responsibility.
  • Providing technical assistance during incident investigations.
  • Promoting safety awareness among the crew including occupational safety as well.
  • Following up on safety projects as assigned.
  • Co-operating in the evaluation of shipboard personnel assigned to safety.
  • Monitoring onboard Safety meetings, reviewing records of the proceedings.
  • Monitoring incidents and accident reports providing follow up when required and as applicable
  • Cooperating with the appointed Ship’s Superintendent on monitoring that the ship's safety documentation is kept updated and safety equipment's (i.e. on load release gears, extinguishers maintenance documentation, ship's drawings related to safety, Statutory certifications, and other etc.) Is in good working order according to the original specification and design.
  • Collaborating with Technical Superintendent in closure of deficiencies or issues faced during Authorities Inspection (as needed)
  • Remaining in close contact with Ship’s Superintendent concerning the status of the current and planned activities related to safety (including but not limited to Dry/Wet Dock).
  • Participate to the Company Incident Response Plan as a team member.
  • This position requires involvement in structuring, implementing, and monitoring the Company SMS within the area of assigned responsibilities.
  • Internal auditing activities as requested by management. He/she may participate during internal audit as Lead auditor.
  • Responsible in developing recommendations to enhance on board safety making sure that compliance is retained.
  • Assist New Build Team in reviewing technical documentation, providing expertise in the design, selection and testing of equipment and assist as required.
  • Participate in the review of any Alternative Design Arrangements.
  • Be part of the Design Team in any HAZIDs and Risk Analysis Workshop and implementation of Safety Requirements.
  • Responsible of any Equivalences, Exemption and Risk Assessment to be presented to Class and Flag, as required.
  • Assisting the Director Safety Compliance and Audit Program in arranging USCG and Class inspections.
  • Responsible of Plan Approval for work which will be performed during operations and/or Dry Dock, making sure that all the technical documentation such as Approval Certificates, Manuals, Calculation etc. will be provided and in line with the requirements.
  • Responsible to provide updates to the Vice President Safety & Compliance/ DPA on any future International and National Maritime Legislation, Regulations and Maritime Codes of Practice applicable to both operational and technical.
  • Remains well connected with Classification Societies and relevant Institutional Bodies, attending Safety Meeting and Conventions including but not limited to Committee and Study Group.
  • Regular sail on board the assigned Fleet.
  • Responsible for maintaining the information on the SAR plans
  • Responsible for the following systems and programs:

Muster list

All safety programs related to trainings.


KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:


  • EDUCATION : Technical education (Nautical Academy or Marine Engineering degree)


  • EXPERIENCE : 5 years experience on board cruise ships in cruise.


KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS :

  • Ability in coordinating activities
  • Personal management skills
  • Good knowledge of computer and information systems
  • Shipboard technical license (minimum required 1st Deck Officer and/or 1st Engineer Officer)
