The Generative AI Innovation Center (GenAIIC) at AWS helps AWS customers accelerate the use of generative AI and realize transformational business opportunities. This cross‑functional team of ML scientists, engineers, architects, and strategists works step‑by‑step with customers and partners to build bespoke solutions that harness the power of generative AI. We are looking for an experienced principal data science manager who brings a strong blend of machine‑learning, generative and agentic AI expertise, effective organizational and interpersonal skills, and experience building scalable AI/ML solutions using cloud computing.

Key job responsibilities

  • Collaborate with ML scientists, engineers and architects to research, design, and develop Generative and Agentic AI solutions to address real‑world challenges.
  • Interact with customers to understand business problems, help and aid them in implementation of AI solutions, deliver briefing and deep‑dive sessions to customers and guide customers on adoption patterns and paths to production.
  • People management responsibilities, to include leading teams driving incubation efforts in areas such as Responsible AI, Physical AI and Agentic AI.
  • Create and deliver best practice recommendations, blog posts, and presentations adapted to technical, business, and executive stakeholders.
  • Provide customer and market feedback to Product and Engineering teams to help define product direction.

Basic Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, machine learning or equivalent quantitative field.
  • 5+ years of people management experience.
  • Experience distilling informal customer requirements into problem definitions, dealing with ambiguity and competing objectives.
  • Experience hiring and leading experienced scientists as well as having a successful record of developing junior members from academia or industry to a successful career track.
  • 10+ years as a scientist or science manager.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in computer science, mathematics, statistics, machine learning or equivalent quantitative field.
  • 10+ years of practical work applying ML to solve complex problems for large‑scale applications experience.
  • Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language.
  • 5+ years of hands‑on work in big data, machine learning and natural language processing.
  • Experience with AWS technologies for machine learning like SageMaker, Bedrock, S3, and EC2.
