Senior CAD Design Engineer

Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo – and potentially humans in the longer run. We want you as a talented Senior CAD Designer to help us in our mission by modelling the physical architecture of our spacecraft.

Key Responsibilities

• Build the CAD physical models of the vehicle and its sub‑systems on Siemens NX and contribute to the choices in terms of overall architecture, aeroshape, equipment accommodation, and main materials.
• Mature the CAD models by adjusting the architecture, accommodation, structure materials, and thicknesses based on the outcomes of the thermo‑mechanical computation loops and system trade‑offs.
• Collaborate closely with thermal and structural analysts, materials and manufacturing engineers to ensure compliance of the physical architecture with the mission environments and manufacturing constraints.
• Ensure configuration management of the CAD models.
• Manage the vehicle structure mass budget, aided by the CAD model, and track it in the overall system database.
• Contribute to co‑engineering sessions with other disciplines, sharing guidelines or orders of magnitude to converge on feasibility.
• Define volume allocations and clearance specifications towards the vehicle sub‑systems.
• Contribute to the improvement of CAD tools and processes.
• Effectively communicate and provide recommendations through the analysis, preparation, and presentation of technical data.
• Provide technical documentation & drawings and participate in reviews of designed systems.
• Interact with space agencies and support flight certification of the vehicle.
• Contribute to the validation and verification of the requirements.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in mechanical, aerospace, or manufacturing engineering.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience as a CAD Design Engineer.
• Strong experience with Siemens NX CAD tool.
• Strong knowledge of aerospace vehicle design and associated challenges.
• Strong understanding of aerospace materials, manufacturing processes, and industry standards.
• Good understanding of the spacecraft certification process.
• Experience in composite design is a plus.
• Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) is a plus.
• Fluent in English; German, French, and Italian are an asset.
