The Robotics & Automation Project Engineer is responsible for the end-to-end execution of automation projects, combining strong hands-on robotics engineering expertise with structured project delivery.
This role focuses on the implementation, integration, and commissioning of robotic and automated systems, ensuring they are robust, efficient, and fully aligned with production requirements.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Define robotic concepts and automation cell architecture based on product and process requirements
- Perform robotic cell simulation and feasibility analysis (cycle time, reachability, layout optimization)
- Program, configure, and optimize industrial and Collaborative robots (ABB, KUKA, UR, etc.)
- Perform robot installation, setup, and on-site commissioning
- Troubleshoot and debug robotic applications and automation cells
- Work with PLC-controlled systems and support their integration within automation cells
- Drive automation projects from concept definition to production handover
- Evaluate and select equipment suppliers, including technical reviews and benchmarking
- Coordinate project phases with suppliers (RFQ, Design Reviews, Factory Acceptance Test, Site Acceptance Test, Ramp-up, etc.)
- Actively manage project risks and technical issues
- Identify improvements in supplier solutions and internal standards
- Support optimization of automation systems during ramp-up
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Master’s or bachelor’s degree in Electronical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, or a related field
- At least 3 years of experience in Robotics and industrial automation engineering preferably in high-tech industries
- Experience working with machine builders / system integrators including supplier coordination and system integration
- Experience in executing and delivering automation projects, including supplier coordination and system integration
- Knowledge of automation auxiliary devices and their integration (sensors, vision system, drives ...)
- Knowledge of industrial interfaces and systems (MES, SCADA, traceability, OPC-UA)
- Knowledge of machinery safety standards, risk management (e.g. FMEA)
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, process flows, and specifications
- Ability to evaluate complex technologies and foresee their application potential
- Skilled at working with interdisciplinary teams and external partners
- Willingness to travel to research partners, conferences, and suppliers (up to 10%)
- Fluent in English; Italian/German proficiency is an advantage
