Position Overview
Space Industries S.p.A., a leading aerospace company specializing in assembly, integration, and testing (AIT) of small satellites , is seeking an experienced RF/EMC Specialist Engineer to manage and execute Radio Frequency (RF) and ElectroMagnetic Compatibility (EMC) testing campaigns within the company's anechoic test facility. The selected candidate will be responsible for planning, performing, and analyzing RF and EMC tests on satellite platforms, subsystems and payloads, ensuring full compliance with ECSS standards, customer specifications and space program requirements. This position requires strong expertise in RF measurements , EMC/EMI testing and anechoic chamber operations, combined with a deep understanding of space hardware testing procedures.
Main Responsibilities
- Plan, execute, and document RF and EMC test campaigns for small satellites and related equipment in accordance with ECSS and customer requirements.
- Operate anechoic test facilities and associated instrumentation (spectrum analyzers, signal generators, antennas, EMI receivers, LISNs, amplifiers).
- Define and implement test setups, wiring configurations, and instrumentation layouts.
- Perform EMI/EMC, RF performance, antenna pattern, and radiated susceptibility tests.
- Ensure compliance with applicable ECSS‑E‑ST‑20‑07, MIL‑STD‑461 and project‑specific test standards.
- Analyze and interpret test data, identify anomalies, and prepare detailed test reports.
- Collaborate with AIT, Engineering, and Product Assurance teams for test planning and troubleshooting.
- Maintain calibration and functionality of RF and EMC test equipment.
- Support test readiness reviews (TRR) and participate in project reviews (TRB, QR, FR).
- Ensure adherence to safety procedures and cleanroom/ESD requirements.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of testing methodologies and facility capabilities.
Requirements
- Degree in Electronics, Telecommunications, Aerospace Engineering or related fields.
- Minimum five years of experience in RF and EMC testing within the aerospace or high‑reliability sector.
- Proven experience with anechoic chamber operations and RF measurement systems.
- In‑depth knowledge of ECSS, MIL‑STD and ESA/ASI test standards.
- Hands‑on experience with test equipment (spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, RF amplifiers, antennas, EMI receivers).
- Strong understanding of RF systems, antennas and EMC/EMI phenomena.
- Proficiency in data analysis, test reporting and root‑cause investigation.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage complex test setups independently.
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a cross‑functional team.
- Good command of English (written and spoken).
- Holder of a valid category B driving license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in small‑satellite or ESA/ASI programmes.
- Familiarity with satellite payloads and RF communication subsystems.
- Knowledge of test automation tools and scripting (e.g. LabVIEW, Python).
- Certification or training in EMC/RF testing or ECSS test standards.
