Overview

Established in 1981 with a single store in the Northwest of England, the JD Group is a leading omni-channel retailer of Sports Fashion, Outdoors and Gyms with over 90,000 colleagues and over 4,500 stores across several retail fascias in over 30 markets around the world. JD Italy counts around 90 stores with over 2,500 employees.

Role Overview: Managing New Stores, Refurbishment and Acquisition Projects to strict deadlines to aid the European Expansion Programme. The role focuses on new store openings, extensions and re-fits primarily in Italy. The role may extend into other regions as required. This role supports our existing European remit to act as a centre of excellence to drive store standards to a market leading level.

Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Senior Southern Europe Projects Manager you will manage the end-to-end project cycle of new stores, re-fits and extensions to highest standards. This includes managing and coordinating the efforts of team members and third-party contractors or consultants in order to deliver projects to plan.
  • Working alongside our Internal Team of Quantity Surveys you will be required to develop, monitor and control the budget for each project keeping the Team updated at all times.
  • Ensure best practice and health and safety is adhered to at all times.
  • Lead and support the wider Project Team delivering progress reports, proposals, requirements, documentation, and presentations where appropriate.
  • Strive for excellence in all JD processes within the Projects team, continually reviewing and developing improvements.
  • Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential risks and devise contingency plans as required.
  • Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise project team members and contractors encouraging them to take positive action and assume accountability for their assigned work.

Skills/Experience/Knowledge

  • Construction/Retail Fit Out experience: Knowledge of the European construction and shop fit industry including Building Control requirements and Italian legislation processes enabling successful management of retail projects up to €5m.
  • Strong Project Management experience with a leading International Retailer, with a proven track record in Retail Roll Out programmes, especially in Italian & Southern European markets.
  • Ability to manage multiple, simultaneous projects across a number of group fascias, keeping them on budget and delivering on time with a focus on cost management, budgets and value engineering.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills: ability to communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders through face to face, oral and presentations.
  • Numerate with strong attention to detail.
  • Qualifications: Degree in Engineering or Architecture.
  • Role focused on the Italian market but geographically mobile to support our expanding store network in Europe.
  • Self-motivated with natural leadership qualities; ability to lead a small projects team by example.
  • Technically competent with knowledge of various software programmes.
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to react to project adjustments promptly and efficiently.
  • Flexible during times of change.
  • Extensive travel and periods away from home in country and abroad as required.
  • Italian native speaker and fluent in English. Other European languages are advantageous.
  • Base location is Milan/Rome.
  • Full European Driving Licence and Full European Passport required for cross-border travel.
