Systematica, on behalf of Transform Transport, is looking for a dedicated Geodata Scientist to join its dynamic and growing team in Milan.

Contract type: Full time ‑ Freelance collaboration (VAT registration required)

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct applied research in urban mobility, with a focus on data‑driven approaches
  • Collect, process, monitor, and validate location‑based datasets
  • Apply machine learning and AI techniques for spatial data modeling and forecasting

Education

M.Sc. in Geoinformatics, Data Science, or similar

Experience

At least 3 years of working experience in the industry or academia

Skills

Required skills:

  • Strong interest and professional experience in urban mobility and city planning
  • Proven experience in urban data analysis, especially on analysis and synthesis of large and complex dataset, and strong interest in research is a plus
  • Ability to manage and process diverse data sources, including: Open data (e.g., OpenStreetMap, Overture Maps), image‑based data (e.g., satellite imagery, street view images), GPS and IoT data
  • Solid knowledge of geospatial analysis and spatial statistics (e.g., spatial clustering, spatial autocorrelation, spatial regression, etc.)
  • Proficiency in Python for geospatial data science (e.g., pandas, NumPy, GeoPandas, MovingPandas, Shapely, scikit‑learn)
  • Experience with data visualization tools: static (e.g., Matplotlib, Seaborn, RAWGraphs) and interactive/web‑based (e.g., Leaflet, Mapbox, Streamlit, Flask, React)
  • Familiarity with LLMs (e.g., Claude) in structured and auditable workflows
  • Experience with GIS tools such as QGIS and ArcGIS
  • Proficiency in English (C1)
  • Proficiency in Italian (B2)

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with image and video processing libraries (e.g., OpenCV, YOLO)
  • Knowledge of deep learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras)
  • Experience with database systems (e.g., SQL, PostgreSQL, PostGIS)
  • Ability to integrate quantitative and qualitative data into analytical workflows

Soft Skills:

  • Passion for data analytics applied to urban environments, spatial accessibility, and public space
  • Interest in behavioral mapping, citizen science, or participatory research methods
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Self‑motivated, proactive, and able to work both independently and in a team
  • Interest or experience in research environments
