Role Overview
We are hiring a R&D Director Software/Firmware R&D Director (Manager role) to own the Software/Firmware stack for custom-ASIC and General-Market Interface products. You will drive SW/FW architecture, implementation and execution across multiple products ensuring alignment beginning from product definition to silicon tapeout, to system integration. This role is critical to enabling high-quality and timely FW development, and scalable customer deployment in various platforms. Key Responsibilities
FW Ownership & cross-functional collaboration Translate systems requirements and product feature definitions into FW/SW architecture, with clear agreements with customers, product definer, Digital & Analog HW design teams, Verification and AMS teams, Project Manager, Applications and validation teams High-Quality and timeliness of deliveries Define clean, modular and reusable partitioning of the FW/SW and implement the design in a high-quality and project-plan aligned timely manner Review and improve the way-of-working and execution flows to meet the best industry standard practices Enhance the team’s efficiency by embracing and incorporating the latest AI-ML tools to their best use Implement FW unit level verification and use FPGA platforms with code-coverage metrics for bug-free FW design freeze before tapeout Guide and motivate the engineering team to exceed the above stated goals Anticipate any deviations from planned targets and apply mitigation plans Customer & Ecosystem Engagement Engage with OEMs and Tier 1 partners to understand real-world requirements. Translate customer feedback into product improvements Drive simplification, usability, and reduced complexity to accelerate adoption and design wins Represent SW/FW in customer discussions during definition, execution, bring-up, performance, smooth launch, and post-ramp support Qualifications
15+ years in embedded firmware, portable systems software, or related field Strong background in low-level SW: Drivers, bootloaders, firmware, RTOS, non-RTOS FW architectures, ARM and RISC based SoC/ASICs Experience in product management, technical leadership, and system architecture Solid understanding of system bring-up and HW/SW integration challenges Customer-facing experience with OEMs or Tier 1s What Success Looks Like
Strong technical skillset to be able to guide the FW team as a technical leader (not just a resource manager) Improved software quality for first-time success rate, reduced bug-count and reduced dependency on post-tapeout FW patching via NVM/SRAM Reduced customer escalations Strong alignment across R&D, Applications, and Product teams Faster customer enablement and NPI execution Reliable system-level bring-up readiness for new platforms NXP is committed to equal pay for equal work and work of equal value and applies fair, consistent and transparent remuneration practices. As of the date of this posting, the estimated gross annual base salary range for this position in Italy is between 103,800 € and 142,800 € annually. This range is intended as a guideline. Actual compensation may vary based on qualifications, experience, skills, and specific business or organizational needs. This position falls under the applicable National Collective Labour Agreement (Metalmeccanica Industria). Where relevant, the total compensation package may also include additional elements such as annual incentive opportunities and/or equity, along with a competitive benefits package.
