Position Summary
The resource is a key member of the Engineering team - Industrial at Allison Off-Highway. The role focuses on defining, designing, and supporting heavy-duty gearbox-based solutions for off-highway and industrial applications such as mining, bulk material handling, construction, heavy industry, marine, energy, and recycling. The resource works cross-functionally to translate application and customer requirements into reliable, high-performance drivetrain solutions, primarily based on the industrial gearbox portfolio.
Main Responsibilites
- Analyze customer and market requirements and translate them into engineered heavy-duty gearbox solutions
- Define & Design technical concepts including gearbox architecture, torque ratings, gear ratios, cooling, lubrication, sealing, and mounting interfaces
- Support project development from concept definition through validation and industrialization
- Perform mechanical calculations (torque, power, bearing life, shaft sizing, thermal behavior)
- Collaborate with manufacturing, supply chain, and quality teams to ensure design-for-manufacturability and compliance with standards
- Support sales with feasibility studies, technical documentation, and solution proposals

- Coordinating multidisciplinary stakeholders under project timing and cost constraints
- Designing solutions for harsh environmental and operating conditions
Job position requirements
Education:
University master degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or Industrial Engineering
Professional background
- 1-5 years of experience in heavy-duty mechanical or gearbox engineering within industrial gearbox manufacturers, off-highway OEMs, or power transmission companies.
- Preferred previous roles include Project Engineer, Application Engineer, Mechanical Design Engineer, or Product Engineer for industrial drives and gear units.
- Experience with engineered-to-order or customized solutions represents a strong advantage.
Hard skills
Essential:
- Knowledge of industrial gearbox design principles (planetary, helical, bevel-helical)
- Solid mechanical engineering fundamentals related to power transmission systems
- Ability to manage engineering projects across multiple stakeholders
- CAD proficiency (NX)
- Knowledge of relevant industrial standards (ISO, DIN; AGMA as a plus)
- Fluent English, written and spoken
- Proficiency with standard engineering tools and calculation software (PLM, Kisssoft,…)
Considered as a plus:
- Experience with thermal simulations and duty-cycle analysis
- Knowledge of hydraulic or electromechanical system integration
- Understanding of manufacturing processes for large mechanical components
- Additional languages (German)
- Experience with on-site commissioning or field testing of heavy machinery
