Project scope

The assignment covers the construction phase of a major breakwater development project at the Port of Genoa. The Project Manager will be responsible for the full day-to-day management of offshore and nearshore construction operations, coordinating a multi-vessel marine spread and acting as the primary interface between the contractor, the client, port authorities, and local stakeholders throughout execution.

The role spans project site, office, and offshore environments, with vessel attendance required on an operational basis when needed.

Role overview

To manage and coordinate all offshore and nearshore construction operations for the Port of Genoa breakwater project - ensuring safe, on-schedule, and on-budget delivery while acting as the primary client and stakeholder interface throughout the execution phase.

Reporting line: You will report to senior management and act as the main interface with the client and local stakeholders, coordinating contractors, subcontractors, and marine operations teams across all project phases.


Key responsibilities

Operations management

  • Manage day-to-day offshore and nearshore construction operations related to the breakwater project
  • Coordinate the activities of multiple vessels involved in marine construction works
  • Supervise contractors, subcontractors, and marine operations teams throughout execution
  • Resolve operational issues and support decision-making as they arise during construction
  • Attend site, office, and offshore meetings as required

Client & stakeholder interface

  • Act as the main interface with the client and local stakeholders throughout the project
  • Liaise with port authorities and relevant local entities as required
  • Monitor progress and prepare regular reports for management and client representatives

Delivery & compliance

  • Ensure project delivery in line with schedule, budget, quality, and HSE requirements
  • Operate effectively both operationally and strategically across a dynamic construction environment

Key deliverables

  • Marine construction operations delivered safely and on schedule across all project phases
  • Multi-vessel spread coordinated effectively with all operational issues resolved proactively
  • Regular progress reports delivered accurately and on time to management and client
  • Full compliance with HSE requirements maintained throughout the construction phase


Requirements

Education

  • Engineering degree or equivalent qualification in marine, civil, or offshore engineering - or equivalent demonstrated experience

Experience

Must-have:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as Project Manager or equivalent on offshore or nearshore marine construction projects
  • Proven experience managing a marine spread and coordinating vessel operations
  • Strong stakeholder management and client-facing skills in a construction environment
  • Solid understanding of offshore HSE and marine construction procedures

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience in port, coastal protection, breakwater, or marine infrastructure projects - highly desirable
  • Familiarity with Italian port authority regulations and local stakeholder environments

Soft skills

  • Ability to operate effectively both operationally and strategically in a dynamic environment
  • Strong leadership and decision-making capability under operational pressure
  • Effective communicator with clients, authorities, and multicultural project teams
  • Italian - mandatory
  • English - professional level - mandatory
