Purpose of the Project

The forestation project envisages 40'000 hectares of a new forest by planting of acacia mangium with an excellent growth capacity and performance in carbon sequestration and a plant nursery. This is a 30-year renewable concession, with an investment time of approximately 15 years for the 40,000 hectares.

The project will follow VCU (Verified Carbon Units) standards

Duties:

  • Manages relations with Aither (an environmental consulting company for drafting of documents and certification of the project and carbon credits)
  • Drafting and submission of the Project Idea Note.
  • Drafting and submission of the Project Design Document.
  • Accreditation of the project with third-party authorities.
  • Issuing of credits.
  • Manages relations with ODW (Congolese environmental consulting company assisting us in drafting the environmental and social impact study).
  • Manages day-to-day relations with ProNar (government body that monitors forestation projects) and the public authority in the country, supported by ODW.
  • Manages day-to-day relations with Verra (verification body that certifies forestation projects and issues credits), supported by Aither.
  • Plans the field activities that Client will develop.
  • Responsible for planting process.
  • Monitoring and safeguard process.
  • Supervises the activities of the operational structure that Client will put in place, led by a chief plant nurseryman (operational).
  • Follows the materials procurement process (seeds, soil, pots, tables, irrigation, etc.) based on the specifications of PIN/PDD/....
  • Monitors investment budgets and progress of activities.
  • Setting up a plant nursery
  • Cultivation of seedlings before being planted in the plot
  • The implementation strategy envisages a plant nursery, centrally located in the village in Ngabe district

Requirements

  • Degree in agroforestry sciences or environmental engineering
  • Experience in carbon sequestration or alternatively experience in socio-environmental impact studies and project certification with international bodies
  • Experience in sub-Saharan Africa and in particular interfacing with public authorities in sub-Saharan Africa
  • Experience in afforestation/reforestation/red++ projects
  • Languages: French fluent written and spoken and English as well.
