Project Engineer – Renewable Energy (Solar PV & Storage)

Preferred location: Northern Italy (Hybrid working available)

Full-time


An established and growing international renewable energy company is seeking a Project Engineer to support the development of solar PV and storage projects across Italy.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic development team and play a key role in delivering grid-connected renewable energy projects.


The Role

The Project Engineer will be responsible for the technical development and coordination of renewable energy projects (PV and PV + BESS), including grid connection infrastructure across low, medium, and high voltage networks.

You will work closely with the development team and external engineering partners to ensure projects progress efficiently from early-stage design through permitting and pre-construction.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage preliminary design for PV and PV + Storage projects
  • Oversee grid connection and interconnection infrastructure design (overhead lines, underground lines, substations, transformer centres, switching stations)
  • Coordinate and supervise external engineering consultants
  • Prepare and review drawings, electrical calculations, BOQs, and technical reports
  • Manage project planning activities in line with company strategy
  • Evaluate development progress and identify optimisation opportunities
  • Support procurement activities and cost evaluation
  • Estimate project yield generation
  • Manage professional relationships with engineering firms, EPC contractors, manufacturers, utilities, landowners, developers, and investors
  • Operate within Italian utility procedures (including E-Distribuzione and Terna portals)


Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Civil or Industrial Engineering
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar role within Italy
  • Strong understanding of greenfield development processes for solar PV and storage projects (site control, grid connection, permitting, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Italian renewable energy permitting procedures
  • Experience with LV, MV and HV infrastructure design
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, PVsyst, Google Earth and substation basic design software (IMEDEXA or similar)
  • Project management capability and strong organisational skills
  • Experience with BESS projects is advantageous
  • Fluent in English (additional languages are a plus)
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
