Product Designer - Design Systems

A short term contract role focused on building and scaling a web design system, with a strong emphasis on design tokens, theming and scalable component and template structures. The work will focus on creating a token based system, supporting multiple brand themes and building reusable page templates to support new partners and web experiences.

The role

You’ll work on the web design system, helping build a scalable system that supports multiple brands, partners and new web experiences.

The focus of the role is on design tokens, theming, templates and system structure rather than product feature design.

This will include

• Creating and structuring design tokens
• Building scalable web components and templates
• Creating systems that support multiple themes and brand variations
• Supporting partner onboarding through themed templates and page structures
• Helping ensure the web design system is scalable and maintainable

Design tokens and system foundations

A large part of the role will involve defining and structuring design tokens that form the foundation of the web design system.

This may include

• Creating token structure for colour, typography, spacing and other foundations
• Ensuring tokens support theming and multiple brand variations
• Working with engineering to ensure tokens align with the front end implementation
• Helping define how tokens are structured and managed going forward

Theming and multi brand systems

The web platform needs to support multiple partners and brand themes, so theming is a key part of the role.

This may include

• Creating theme structures that support multiple partners or brands
• Defining how themes work across components and templates
• Ensuring new partners can be onboarded efficiently using the system
• Supporting the creation of themed pages and templates for partners

Templates and page systems

The role will also involve building templates and page structures that teams can use to create new web pages quickly and consistently.

This may include

• Creating reusable page templates
• Defining layout systems and page structures
• Ensuring templates work across themes and brands
• Supporting teams creating new pages using the system

Working with engineering and product teams

You’ll work closely with engineers and product teams to ensure the design system works well in development and supports future growth of the platform.

This may include

• Aligning tokens and components with front end implementation
• Ensuring system structure supports scalability
• Supporting teams using the design system
• Helping define how the system evolves over time

Background
