At ERM, we are committed to supporting our Private Equity clients in decarbonizing their portfolio companies to create value and transition to a low-carbon economy. Our Private Markets Decarbonization & Energy Transition Investing Team is experiencing significant market growth and services a large base of private equity and infrastructure investor clients. Consultants work on strategic and operational decarbonization projects at both investor and portfolio company levels.

We seek a Principal Consultant to develop value-creating 'Investment Grade' decarbonization plans that align with both portfolio companies' needs and General Partner goals, enabling rapid implementation.

The role is based in Italy with flexible working arrangements.

The Role :

The Principal Consultant will leverage existing client relationships and develop new ones within the private markets investor space. You will lead and motivate teams to deliver value-led decarbonization strategies and projects.

Responsibilities :

• Developing strategies to pursue and secure new business, resulting in revenue growth.
• Leading decarbonization project origination and delivery, collaborating with client teams to develop fund plans, measure performance against climate metrics, and prepare for exits.
• Designing 'Investment Grade' decarbonization plans for investments, ensuring alignment with broader ESG and energy transition goals.
• Leading multidisciplinary teams across ERM’s energy solutions, M&A, digital, and sustainability groups.
• Providing guidance to clients on translating decarbonization into value-generating business models.
• Leading due diligence projects on ESG and low-carbon drivers to enhance value and mitigate risks, including post-investment initiatives.

About you :

• Fluent in English and Italian.
• Experience in delivering comprehensive decarbonization plans supported by detailed ROI and MACC analyses.
• Proven ability to develop plans that extend beyond energy savings to include revenue growth, market positioning, and cost reduction.
• Experience managing decarbonization programs within private equity and infrastructure contexts.
• Deep knowledge of energy efficiency, renewable procurement, low-carbon solutions, and sustainable value chains.

Desirable skills :

• Knowledge of private equity/infrastructure operations, strategic engagement at C-suite level, and experience with GHG inventories and net-zero targets.
• Familiarity with energy transition investing, SBTi, TCFD, LEED, BREEAM, and impact measurement standards.
• Background in consulting preferred but not required.
