The Role
AspenTech is seeking a Principal Consultant Engineer within the Global Professional Services organization. The selected candidate will be based in our offices in the UK or Pisa (Italy).
The primary responsibility is to provide consulting services within the Professional Services Engineering (ENG) Group, focusing on developing simulation models for industrial processes and utility systems. These models will be used for process optimization, monitoring, improvement studies, energy and emissions reduction.
The role includes customer visits, technical sales support, and may also support Product Management and R&D as an internal process modeling expert. Additionally, support for the Customer Support and Training (CS&T) organization may be required to address customer questions and issues.
Your Impact
As a Principal Consultant Engineer, your responsibilities will include:
- Leading technical aspects of medium and large projects, resolving technical issues to ensure customer satisfaction, and delegating tasks to team members.
- Coordinating solution delivery with AspenTech Project Managers and clients to meet milestones, deadlines, and financial targets.
- Overseeing multiple projects, providing guidance to less experienced team members, and ensuring customer satisfaction.
- Reviewing process flow diagrams, instrumentation diagrams, mass balances, plant data, process descriptions, and manuals.
- Implementing projects using AspenTech's process simulation software such as Aspen Plus, Aspen HYSYS, Aspen OnLine, among others.
- Managing AspenTech RTO and Digital Twin deployment projects for optimization and sustainability initiatives.
- Participating in client meetings, preparing documentation and reports, and assisting with user training.
- Communicating results confidently to clients.
- Collaborating with Sales, Support, Product Management, and R&D teams for successful project delivery.
- Maintaining and developing client relationships and identifying opportunities for additional services.
- Supporting sales in preparing and delivering complex bids and proposals to major clients.
What You'll Need
- A degree in Chemical Engineering; a PhD or master's degree is an advantage. Experience in a service organization is beneficial.
- Minimum 8+ years in modeling refining, petrochemical, or ethylene processes, or equivalent experience in engineering firms or operating companies.
- Proficiency in AspenTech's suite of process simulation and design tools or similar software.
- Experience in process modeling of complex plants, ethylene plants, ammonia plants, or refineries.
- Knowledge of APC and Historian tools is advantageous.
- Experience with RTO applications, including design, implementation, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to analyze plant data for trends and operational improvements.
- Experience with AI/ML and data modeling is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of industrial processes in refining, chemicals, or petrochemicals, especially reactor modeling; polymer processes are a plus.
- Experience in visualization and collaboration solutions, such as PowerBI or other tools.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office; programming skills in Python, C#, or C++ are highly advantageous.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills in English.
- Comfortable in a technical leadership role and willing to travel up to 25% nationally and internationally.
- Proactive problem solver, quick learner, with strong analytical skills and a team-oriented attitude.
