Postdoc in Cancer Synthetic Lethality Prediction and AI-Driven Target Discovery

Human Technopole (Milan) invites applications for a Postdoctoral researcher in the Iorio Group, focusing on AI-driven multi-omics integration to predict synthetic lethality in cancer and guide target discovery.

Overview

As part of a rapidly growing life science institute, you will lead high-impact projects, shape scientific strategy, and collaborate across academia and industry.

Your mission

  • Lead computational genomics research at the intersection of machine learning, CRISPR screening data analysis, and multi‑omics to uncover genetic interactions and synthetic lethalities in cancer.
  • Develop scalable, reproducible computational methods for integrative analysis of large‑scale perturbation and omics data and translate results into experimental strategies with wet‑lab teams.
  • Drive scientific output through publications, conference presentations, grants, and open‑science resources.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to junior researchers; co‑lead internal and external projects in alignment with funded initiatives.

Grow Your Skills

Work on biology‑driven experiments, including CRISPR, Perturb‑seq, single‑cell transcriptomics, and spatial‑omics screens, while gaining training, mentoring, and learning opportunities.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Ph.D. in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Machine Learning, Systems Biology, Genomics, or a related discipline.
  • Strong research track record with peer‑reviewed publications.
  • Experience with large‑scale genomics or functional genomics datasets.
  • Proficient in Python and/or R, with version control experience (e.g., Git).
  • Familiarity with machine‑learning frameworks (scikit‑learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow) applied to biomedical data.

Preferred

  • Experience with CRISPR‑Cas9/CRISPRi/a screening data, RNA‑seq, single‑cell or spatial transcriptomics data processing.
  • Competence in handling multi‑omics and perturbation‑response data, ensuring data quality, reproducibility, and biological interpretability.
  • Experience in collaborative hybrid settings, interacting with wet‑lab scientists and experimental facilities.
  • Experience with reproducible research environments (Docker, Snakemake, Nextflow).
  • Strong mathematical or statistical background.

Benefits & Compensation

  • 4‑year contract under CCNL Chimico Farmaceutico, Employee Level B2.
  • Salary up to €43,000, depending on seniority.
  • Position based in Milan, Italy on an international campus.
  • Competitive welfare provisions, flexible working policies, relocation support, tax benefits for researchers moving to Italy, and parental support initiatives.
