ABOUT THE ROLE - PLANNING ENGINEER

The Planning Engineer is responsible for developing, monitoring, and updating project schedules to ensure the timely execution of all project phases, including engineering, procurement, construction, installation, commissioning, and handover.

The role supports the Project Manager and the Project Service Manager by providing schedule forecasts, progress updates, critical path analysis, and delay assessments to enable proactive project management and effective decision‑making.

Location:

Responsibilities:

1. Schedule Development & Baseline Preparation

  • Develop and maintain the Project Master Schedule in alignment with the Project Execution Plan (PEP).
  • Define and structure the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and activity coding in coordination with all project disciplines.
  • Identify critical path activities and key project milestones.
  • Ensure alignment between project schedules, cost control activities, procurement timelines, and engineering deliverables.

2. Progress Monitoring & Schedule Control

  • Monitor project progress against the approved baseline schedule.
  • Perform periodic schedule updates (weekly/monthly) using actual progress data.
  • Identify schedule deviations, delays, and potential risks, proposing mitigation and recovery plans where required.
  • Maintain and update progress curves (S-curves) and manpower histograms.

3. Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Interface with engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction, and offshore teams to collect and validate progress data.
  • Integrate subcontractor schedules into the overall project planning structure.
  • Ensure proper coordination between offshore and onshore execution schedules, especially for critical interfaces.

4. Reporting & Planning Analysis

  • Prepare weekly and monthly planning reports for both management and clients.
  • Conduct and present Critical Path Method (CPM) analyses.
  • Highlight potential delays, critical activities, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Develop short-term “look-ahead” schedules to support operational planning activities.

5. Delay & Change Management

  • Perform schedule impact assessments related to change orders and project variations.
  • Support claims management activities through Time Impact Analysis (TIA).
  • Maintain planning records and supporting documentation for Extension of Time (EOT) submissions.

Requirements:

Technical Skills

  • Strong expertise in project planning and scheduling methodologies within complex industrial projects.
  • Advanced knowledge of Primavera P6 is mandatory.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Project and Excel for reporting and progress analysis activities.
  • Solid understanding of Critical Path Method (CPM), Time Impact Analysis (TIA), and project control principles.
  • Experience in developing and managing EPC project schedules within Oil & Gas, offshore, or energy sectors.
  • Familiarity with progress measurement systems, S-curves, manpower histograms, and KPI tracking.
  • Understanding of engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction, installation, and commissioning workflows.

Professional Experience

  • Proven experience as a Planning Engineer within EPC, Oil & Gas, offshore, marine, or industrial construction projects.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary project teams and subcontractors in complex project environments.
  • Previous exposure to offshore projects, fabrication yards, or marine operations is considered a strong advantage.
  • Experience supporting claims management, delay analysis, and Extension of Time (EOT) documentation activities.

Languages

  • Excellent spoken and written English is mandatory.
  • Italian language knowledge is considered a plus.
