PhD Position in the Innocenti Lab – University of Milano-Bicocca
The Innocenti Lab, based at the Department of Biotechnology and Biosciences (BtBs) of the University of Milano-Bicocca (UNIMIB), investigates how cytoskeletal dynamics, membrane trafficking, and tumour-microenvironment interactions shape cell behaviour in cancer and inflammatory settings. The lab combines mechanistic cell biology with translational cancer research and has longstanding expertise in actin cytoskeleton regulation, Rho GTPase signalling, formin and Arp2/3 biology, advanced imaging, CRISPR/Cas9-based approaches, proteomics, and 2D/3D disease models. The PhD student joining the lab will work in a dynamic, collaborative, and interdisciplinary environment, with access to state-of-the-art methodologies and strong national and international collaborations.
PhD Project
The PhD project will investigate how actin cytoskeleton remodelling controls macropinocytosis and contributes to drug response in cervical cancer. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with advanced cell biology, genome editing, imaging, proteomics, 3D culture systems, and translational collaborations.
Qualifications
Candidates should have a strong interest in cell biology, cancer biology, or related biomedical disciplines. A background in molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, oncology, or a closely related field is expected. Prior hands-on experience in one or more of the following areas will be considered an advantage: mammalian cell culture, microscopy, cancer models, molecular cloning, CRISPR/Cas9, protein analysis, or omics-based approaches. We are looking for a motivated and curious candidate with strong analytical skills, enthusiasm for interdisciplinary research, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in an international research environment.
How to apply
Applications should be submitted through the official University of Milano-Bicocca PhD call for the XLII cycle (a.y. 2026⁄2027 , Session I) . The university states that applications are open from 18 March 2026 to 17 April 2026 at 12:00 noon (Italian time) . The general admissions page is here:
