1 open call for a PhD fellow in Materials Engineering

Title of the reserach: LIGHT-CONTROLLED MOLECULAR TOOLS FOR MITOCHONDRIAL MODULATION IN CANCER AND METABOLIC DISORDERS

The main objective of this research is to develop

mitochondria-targeting photoactive materials capable of optically controlling key mitochondrial functions. By engineering tailored azobenzene-based photoswitches with enhanced mitochondrial selectivity, stability, and biocompatibility, the project aims to establish a new class of light-activated molecular tools for both diagnostic and therapeutic applications. #photochromism; #synthesis; #organic synthesis; #PhD

The PhD project aims to provide advanced interdisciplinary training in materials engineering applied to life sciences and photomedicine.

The candidate will acquire expertise in molecular design, photoresponsive materials, and structure property relationships.

The program promotes international mobility, advanced scientific communication skills, and active participation in academic–clinical and academic–industrial collaborations.

It fosters research autonomy, critical thinking, and a strong translational mindset within the framework of the PhD in Materials Engineering at Politecnico di Milano.
