With this spirit, we are looking for a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to work on Design/Certification and production support activities within the Engineering organization, with a main focus on engine components (e.g., heat exchanger, structures) designed using additive technology (DMLM). The successful Engineer will be working within the Military Design Engineering section dedicated to additive design, taking end‑to‑end design responsibility for the component by coordinating all activities aimed to test/verify design intent as well as certification and entry into service. You will develop a vast network across Avio Aero and GE Aviation, working with internal and external suppliers/functions (engineering, manufacturing, quality, sourcing, NDT specialists, program) to ensure the part aligns with design intent and certification requirements.

Essential responsibilities

  • Capture system requirements, flow‑down to components, definition of relevant validation needs.
  • Issue technical documents relative to component design according to engineering policies and procedures (drawings, presentations, analysis reports).
  • Participate as a presenter in technical and program reviews.
  • Develop components and modules design to cost, performance, and life objectives.
  • Proactively support and coordinate activities with manufacturing departments and suppliers to implement product improvements (e.g., concurrent design, cost‑out activities).
  • Support source technological substantiation and non‑conformances assessment.
  • Support activities related to development findings, components performance and investigations (test requests, test data post‑processing, laboratory investigations).

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical/Aeronautical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Knowledge of designing additive components, preferably using DMLM technology.
  • Experience with CAD tools (e.g., Unigraphics NX) and CAE tools (e.g., Nastran, Ansys).
  • Fundamental understanding of mechanical design (static, strength of materials, dynamics, etc.) and of fluid mechanics and heat transfer.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills. Team working and inclusiveness proven capabilities.
  • Clear thinking, diligent approach, result‑oriented.
  • Fluent English and Italian, both written and oral.
  • Work Visa in accordance with local regulation.

Desired characteristics

  • Knowledge of aeronautical engine components or modules, technical requirements, design solutions, technologies.
  • Experience in cost and value engineering.
  • Previous experience in mechanical design of complex products and new product introduction process.
  • Experience on structure stress analysis.
  • Capable to work in a multicultural environment, preferable previous international experience.
  • Curiosity and passion for mechanical design.
