Organisation/Company: CERIC-ERIC – a Central European consortium for research infrastructure. The role is a PhD student in Experimental Physics to contribute to the CERIC‑ERIC project “DiMiNe”, which exploits carbon‑based semiconductor radiation detectors (diamond and SiC) for neutron monitoring and spectroscopy. The position will remain open until it is filled.
Job Description
The successful candidate will create new data demonstrating the capabilities and limitations of carbon‑based radiation detectors in mixed neutron‑gamma fields and will lead the development of new detection systems that will be tested across a wide range of neutron energies. The research will be conducted primarily at the accelerator facility of the Ruđer Bošković Institute (RBI) in Zagreb, Croatia, with additional experimental work at the Budapest Neutron Center (BNC) in Hungary.
Requirements
- Master’s degree or equivalent in Physics (or related) with a GPA of at least 80 % of the maximum possible to allow direct enrolment to PhD studies.
- Experience with experimental physics practices and methodologies.
- Fluent in English (minimum B2), additional languages an advantage.
- Experience with Monte Carlo simulation toolkits (Geant4, MCNP, FLUKA, etc.).
- Knowledge and experience in solid‑state physics.
- Experience in radiation detectors.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team and thrive in a multi‑cultural environment.
- Creativity, independence and initiative to work autonomously.
