Job Description
The United Nations is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Network Engineer to join its team in Brindisi. The incumbent will be responsible for the global management and support of the United Nations' Wide Area Network (WAN), which connects over 250 customer sites worldwide. The role includes design, implementation, monitoring, troubleshooting, and automation of complex network and security infrastructure in a mission-critical environment.
Responsibilities
- Manage and operate a global Wide Area Network (WAN) providing connectivity to 250+ remote sites.
- Configure and support Cisco-based routing technologies including DMVPN, BGP, OSPF, PfRv3, and MPLS.
- Manage network security infrastructure including Cisco Firepower Threat Defense (FTD), Check Point firewalls, and Cisco VPN solutions.
- Coordinate with Service Providers for leased line and Internet connectivity setup, performance, and SLA adherence.
- Administer LAN switching infrastructure using Cisco Catalyst and Nexus platforms.
- Provide technical support, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis for network issues.
- Develop and implement network automation scripts using tools such as Ansible and Python.
- Document network configurations, topologies, and operational procedures.
- Work on multiple concurrent projects while ensuring high levels of service delivery.
- Apply ITIL and ISO best practices in change, incident, and problem management.
Qualifications and Experience
Experience:
- Experience of progressively responsible experience in managing enterprise networks and security infrastructure.
Technical Skills:
- Expert-level knowledge of Cisco WAN technologies (DMVPN, BGP, OSPF, PfRv3, MPLS)
- Experience with Cisco FTD, Check Point firewalls, and VPN solutions
- Proficiency in LAN switching with Cisco Catalyst and Nexus devices
- Strong skills in network automation and scripting using Ansible and Python
- Hands-on experience with network monitoring and management tools
- Solid understanding of IT Service Management practices (ITIL, ISO 20000
Certifications (Preferred)
- Cisco certifications such as CCNP, CCIE or equivalent experience
Other Requirements:

- Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
