This research falls within the scope of the IINF-05/A research area, applying computer science to the field of digital health (e-health) and the analysis of biological and biomedical data, within a departmental context of clinical and translational research. The research project focuses on the design, development and validation of Artificial Intelligence and Machine/Deep Learning models applied to healthcare, with particular reference to computer vision applied to the processing and analysis of medical images (Medical Imaging). The research areas also focus on the integration, processing and modelling of complex biomedical data (clinical data, omics data, signals), including through the design and optimisation of algorithms for execution in high-performance computing (HPC) environments, in support of multiple research projects and interdisciplinary research networks. The successful candidate will assume methodological responsibility for the design, implementation and scientific validation of the information processing and artificial intelligence models envisaged in the research activities. The researcher will operate with full scientific autonomy, working in close collaboration with the Department’s multidisciplinary teams. He will also be responsible for coordinating junior staff, disseminating results internationally and playing a proactive role in securing competitive funding. The teaching programme is structured across two complementary levels, consistent with the curriculum. The first level comprises core modules (fundamentals of computer science, medical informatics, and biomedical data and signal processing) aimed at students on the Bachelor’s degree programmes in Medicine and Surgery and in the Health Professions. The second level involves teaching or co-teaching advanced engineering and methodological modules (with particular reference to Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision and High-Performance Computing – HPC) to be delivered as part of degree and PhD programmes in the field of information engineering, in consultation with the relevant departments.
