Offer Description

The activity will focus on the metabolic adaptations of tumor and stromal cells and on the role of the tumor microenvironment in cancer progression. The objective will be to characterize the molecular and metabolic mechanisms governing the interactions among tumor cells, stromal cells, and the extracellular matrix using in vitro,ex vivo, and in vivo models.Particular attention will be paid to biochemical, biophysical, and structural alterations of the extracellular matrix and their influence on energy metabolism, metabolic fluxes, and functional interactions among cell populations within the tumor microenvironment. The mechanisms through which these alterations contribute to metabolic heterogeneity, tumor progression, and treatment response will be investigated to identify novel therapeutic targets and strategies. The research will also include the development of methods for the multiscale analysis of metabolism in cells, tissues, and organs by integrating cellular and molecular biochemistry, metabolic flux analysis, flow cytometry, bioinformatics, and functional assays with high-resolution imaging technologies.Confocal, multiphoton, and intravital microscopy will enable the investigation of metabolic dynamics, the subcellular localization of metabolic processes, the three-dimensional organization of tissues, and cell–matrix interactions.Fluorescent probes, biosensors, fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM),and NAD(P)H and FAD imaging will allow the in situ assessment of redox status, glycolysis, and mitochondrial respiration. The successful candidate will contribute to experimental model design, the characterization of tumor and stromal metabolism, and the validation of therapeutic approaches using three-dimensional cultures, tissues, transgenic models, and patient-derived cells. The candidate will also contribute to the coordination of research activities, data integration, dissemination of results, and funding acquisition.Teaching duties,in accordance with current legislation and University regulations, will cover courses consistent with the SSD BIOS-07/A within Bachelor’s,Master’s, single-cycle Master’s degree programs, and PhD programs within the Medical and Engineering Departments.Priority will be given to Degree and PhD programs affiliated with the Department of Molecular and Translational Medicine.Additional responsibilities will include participation in examination committees, supervision of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral theses,as well as student tutoring and mentoring activities. The researcher will also be expected to contribute continuously to the organization and management of teaching and research activities at both University and Department levels, ensuring active participation in academic bodies and related committees. The researcher will be required to undertake institutional and organizational responsibilities within the Department and/or the University.
