Mechanical Systems Engineer - Aircraft Hydraulic, Landing Gear & Flight Control Systems (Military & Civil Aviation) - Italy - €DOE
Location: Onsite in Northern Italy (90% onsite, 10% supplier visits)

Overview
A leading High Tech Company is seeking a Mechanical Systems Engineer with strong experience across hydraulic systems, landing gear, braking systems, and mechanical flight controls. This position replaces an existing headcount and will join the aircraft systems engineering team, supporting both development and in-service engineering across major civil and military aviation programmes.
The role covers the full engineering lifecycle: requirements definition, analysis, documentation, integration, testing, supplier technical management, and support to certification and airworthiness activities. The focus for this position is on Cold Mechanics.
Key Responsibilities
- Systems Engineering & Technical Delivery
- Prepare, manage and update Technical Modification Dossiers (DMT), technical requirements, analyses, trade-off studies, part lists, test procedures (TRS), test reports (RPT/TNT), and compliance documentation.
- Provide engineering support for aircraft system installations, equipment layout, and integration activities.
- Contribute to Systems Integration with Avionics teams, preparing interface documents and participating in design reviews.
Supplier Technical Management
- Act as a technical link between internal departments and equipment suppliers.
- Lead/participate in supplier design reviews and technical meetings.
- Produce analyses, presentations, Minutes of Meeting (MoM), Engineering Coordination Memos (ECM) and maintain schedules, plans, progress tracking and action logs.
Testing, Verification & Certification
- Support test planning, supervision, data analysis and consolidation of results.
- Produce documentation needed for compliance with civil and military airworthiness authorities.
- Support certification and homologation activities in coordination with internal airworthiness teams.
In-Service Support
- Provide specialist technical support to Airworthiness & Customer Support for troubleshooting and investigation of in-service issues.
Technical Documentation & Reporting
- Review and verify supplier and internal documentation, including drawings and installations.
- Deliver plans, schedules, weekly progress updates, and monthly timesheets.
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong knowledge of Systems Engineering frameworks (ARP4754A).
- Understanding of testing, verification and certification processes (CS23 / FAR23).
- Background in hydraulics, landing gear, braking systems, or mechanical flight controls is highly desirable.
- Fluent in technical English.
- Proficient with MS Office and MS Teams/Webex.
- Strong analytical capability; modelling/simulation experience (Matlab/Simulink preferred).
- Excellent communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.
- Able to work autonomously with minimal supervision, including remote support.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Aerospace Engineering (Mechanical or Electronic also considered).
- Previous experience in design, development or test within an aerospace engineering environment.
Working Pattern
- 90% onsite at the client’s facility in Northern Italy.
- 10% travel to supplier facilities.
- Weekly engineering progress meetings.
