Overview
Mechanical Engineering Lead / Manager for a mega-scale LNG development in Sub-Saharan Africa. The project involves a two-train facility with potential expansion to 43 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). The role is responsible for leading the LNG project mechanical engineering team, managing mechanical detailed engineering execution centres, and overseeing the technical development of the Project. The position will manage an organization of approximately 9 personnel and provide oversight of a 300+ EPC Contractor team.
Responsibilities
- Assure the Mechanical discipline issuance, review, and approval of around 14,000 technical documents.
- Manage the Mechanical discipline development of engineering specifications and provide quality assurance in the procurement of materials, equipment, and services to ensure conformity with sound engineering practice and cost-effectiveness.
- Direct management of 104 POs with a value of around USD 1 billion.
- Support to other discipline leaders on the overall 177 POs with a total value of USD 3 billion.
- Ensure all Project HSE requirements are adhered to and implemented; emphasize HSE throughout all Mechanical design activities; contribute to developing a safety culture on the project.
- Complete execution of process design aspects in accordance with MZLNG standards, guidelines, procedures, Quality Program, project plans, and contractual obligations.
- Review and verify EPC Contractor's remaining detailed engineering deliverables (Mechanical Datasheets, Design Criteria, Calculation Reports, Fabrication drawings, etc.) for:
- Pressure Vessels & Combustion (Flares, Thermal Oxidizers, WHRU, etc.);
- Piping systems, valves and piping equipment;
- Storage Tanks;
- Package equipment;
- Piping & valve equipment.
- Interface with Contractor Mechanical Engineering site leads to coordinate efforts and address issues.
- Identify opportunities and risks (and their mitigations) for Mechanical design-related operating issues.
- Work with Process Safety to ensure safeguards and mitigations are in place for safe operations.
- Oversee Contractor planning and execution activities with a focus on Mechanical engineering, while maintaining familiarity with multidisciplinary engineering execution and procurement.
- Collaborate with Project Services, Engineering disciplines, and Procurement to identify Mechanical design needs to support the project schedule.
- Conduct Mechanical Discipline detailed evaluation and technical audits of various critical plant areas.
- Assist the EM in ensuring Mechanical Discipline technical portions of the EPC contract are adhered to during execution.
- During site activities, respond promptly to site queries and technical problems, oversee punch list rectifications, on-site tests, and erection of all discipline-related equipment.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering.
- Registration as a Chartered Engineer, PE or equivalent preferred.
- Proficient in English; working knowledge of French or Italian is desirable.
- Fifteen (15) or more years of experience in Oil & Gas and large projects.
- Knowledge of mechanical equipment required for large-scale LNG facilities.
- Sound understanding of applicable regulatory requirements in international settings.
- Supervisory experience related to plant and project engineering with increasing size and responsibility.
- Extensive knowledge of standard engineering methods, technologies, and computerized design techniques.
